Elaine was the daughter of Charles Edward Shepard and Madalyn Mae Eskridge Shepard of Covington, Va., and the granddaughter of Charles Augustus Shepard and Mary Ann Sheehy Shepard of Milton, Pa., and William Augustus Eskridge and Mary Ella Riley Eskridge of Marlinton, W.Va. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Rayburn Albert Williams of Clifton Forge, Va; her brothers, Mike, David and Joe; and brother-in-law, Bill Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Williams Lewis; son-in-law, Jimmy Lewis; and granddaughter, Madalyn Kate Lewis. Also surviving are her siblings, Steve (Jan) and Marilyn Thompson and their families; her sisters-in-law, Jean, Anna Mae, Karen and their families; her stepsons, Larry and Mike Williams; and stepdaughter, Linda Coy and their families. Elaine is a graduate of James Madison University/VCU with a degree in education. During her time in school she did student teaching with her mother whom she believed was the best mentor she could have. She taught school while living in Pensacola when Ray was working for the United States Navy. Elaine loved arranging flowers and worked full or part-time doing so in every city in which she lived. She even helped arrange the flowers for the White House wedding of Patricia Nixon. Elaine devoted most of her married life to doting on Anne and later on her namesake, Madalyn Kate. Following Elaine's request, her body was donated to the State Anatomical Program of the Virginia Department of Health for medical education. Her ashes will later be interred in the Arlington National Cemetery with her husband, Ray. The family wishes to thank Bethel Ridge Assisted Living and Medi Home Health and Hospice for their attentive and loving care. Also, many thanks to the Alzheimer's Association. on August 28, 2016.3

Gowen, of the United States Army; a sister, Mrs. John Gowen, of Roanoke a brother, Frank Reese, of Beckley, W.Va; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Burial in the family cemetery at Arrington. on February 27, 1952.4
