Surviving is his wife, Ethel Hodges Nichols, Callaway; three daughters and sons-in-law, Iris and Nelson Carr, Copper Hill, Linda and Woody Martin, Wilmington, N.C., Hilda Ann and Jeffrey Wray, Gulfport, Miss; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gene Nichols, Franklin and Gladys Nichols, all of Callaway, Terry Nichols, Seattle, Wash; 11 grandsons; nine granddaughters; eight great-grandsons; and eight great-granddaughters; a brother, Ernest L. Nichols, Copper Hill. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday at Adney Gap Brethren in Christ Church, with the Rev. Dennis Ritchey officiating, with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home, Floyd. on February 1, 1995.¹

     Ethel Marie Hodges was born on September 26, 1917 at Franklin Co., Virginia.² She married Jessie Willard Nichols, son of Emmanuel Hawkin/Hawkins Nichols and Octavia Lucy Jane Wimmer, on June 30, 1937 at Franklin Co., Virginia.^1,2,3 As of June 30, 1937,her married name was Nichols.² Ethel Marie Hodges died on October 9, 2010 at Virginia at age 93.³ She Ethel M. Nichols, 93 of Callaway, Va., went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 9, 2010. She was a long time member of the Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie W. Nichols; two sons, Jessie J. Nichols and Gene A. Nichols; and two grandsons, Jeffery N. Carr and Michael S. Carr. She is survived by her children, Franklin R. Nichols and wife, Gladys, Iris E. Carr, Linda Martin and husband, Woody, Hilda Wray and husband, Jerry, and Terry L. Nichols; 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. Interment will follow in the Adney Gap Church Cemetery, Callaway, Va. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2010.
