Born March 28, 1966 in Portsmonth, Va., he was the son of the late Vesper Beckner and Kathleen Beckner. He was disabled and a member of the Mount Grove Community Church at Browning Lambert Mountain. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one nephew, Bryan Beckner. He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Kevin Beckner and Alex Beckner of Brunswick, Ga; his companion of four years, Sheila Poore of Browning Lambert Mountain; one brother, Barry Beckner of Rock, W.Va; four sisters, Alma Jones of Virginia Beach, Va., Patricia Barron of Washington, D.C., Priscilla Smith of Bristol, Va. and Paula Christian of Rock, W.Va.. Also, he will be missed by his church family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Grove Community Church on Browning Lambert Mountain with the Reverend Edward Mabe officiating. on January 26, 2012.⁶

Mrs. Hawks was a homemaker and a self-employed domestic engineer. She was a member of Broadway Assembly Church, Lorain, and volunteered for Love Extended Care and Camp Blessing. She was a member of Variety Club in Lorain County for more than 30 years. Survivors include her daughters Sandra Bontrager of Elkhart, Ind., and Emilie Jo Hall of Lorain; sisters Kathleen Beckner of West Virginia and Juanita Jackson of North Carolina; brothers Harold ''Sonny'' and RC Pigg, both of West Virginia; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Buford Melvin Hawks, on Feb. 16, 2004; and her parents Clifford and Loma (nee Webb) Pigg. Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Broadway Assembly Church, 5495 Broadway, Lorain, where services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. The Rev. Mark Lantz, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. on March 17, 2004.⁴
