     Norma Jean Conner Norma Jean Smith, 83, of Reidsville, NC went to be with the Lord Friday September 11, 2020 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital Greensboro, NC. Graveside Services will be conducted in Thompsonville Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Henry County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Opie Roosevelt and Hattie McCrickard Conner and had lived most of her life in Rockingham County. She was a former employee of Glen Raven Mill and later worked in the cafeteria of Williamsburg Elementary School. She was member of Thompsonville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for the 3 and 4 year olds, and helped with Bible School. Jean was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Crystal Ann Smith, a sister: Thalia Horsley and a brother: Ernest Conner. Survivors include her husband of 65 years: Earl C. Smith of the home, daughters: Teresa S. Land and husband Mark, and Janice S. Willard and husband Randy both of Reidsville, sons: Terry Smith and wife Ruby May and Mark Smith and wife Angie both of Reidsville, a brother: Raymond Conner and wife Joan of Ridgeway, VA, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.6 She was buried at Thompsonville Baptist Church Cemetery, Reidsville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.6 She was born on August 22, 1937 at Henry Co., Virginia.7 As of November 24, 1955,her married name was Smith.2 She married Earl Cleatus Smith on November 24, 1955 at Chesterfield, Chesterfield Co., South Carolina.6,8,2 Norma Jean Conner died on September 11, 2020 at Greensboro, Guilford Co., North Carolina, at age 83.6

Born Nov. 1, 1924, in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Mary Davis Horsley and the late Harry Horsley. He served 16 years in the Navy, part of that time during World War II, and he was awarded the American Victory/WW II Asiatic Pacific medal and two stars; the Korean Service medal, and the United Nations service and National Defense medals. He retired from American Furniture Co. as a line leader in the cane department, and he was a member of Smith Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church in Ridgeway.
Surviving are his wife, Thalia Conner Horsley of the home; one daughter, Gail Horsley Hardie of Martinsville; two brothers, Sammy Horsley and Billy Horsley, both of Danville; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Harold Horsley. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors to be conducted by the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. on August 11, 2000.2

     Earl Cleatus Smith Earl C. Smith, 87, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord Monday September 27, 2021 at Peak Resources in Graham, NC. Graveside services will be conducted in Thompsonville Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Caswell County, he was the son of the late Coy Thomas and Nellie McKinney Smith and had lived in Rockingham County most of his life. He was an innovative tobacco farmer being the first to use the insecticide Orthene in transplant water for tobacco. This process is used by most all tobacco farmers today. Earl enjoyed hunting, playing Rook, Putt Putt and watching John Wayne movies on T.V. Earl loved to garden and planted a large vegetable garden every year. He looked forward to giving most of the fruit of his garden to friends. He was a member of Thompsonville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Jean Conner Smith, granddaughter: Crystal Ann Smith, and a great grandson: Hayden Owen Brown. Survivors include his daughters: Janice S. Willard (Randy) and Teresa S.
