Born on July 14, 1948 at Cool Ridge, he was the son of the late Joe C. Lilly and Pemel Hutchens Lilly. Mr. Lilly was a disabled coal miner, and was a member of the UMWA. He had lived at Cool Ridge for most of his life. Surviving are his wife, Mary Basham Lilly at home; three sons, Barry Joe Lilly Jr. and his wife Laurie of Ghent, Patrick Lilly and his wife Rose of Ghent and Harold Tennant of Cool Ridge; two step sons, Wayne Carr and wife Gabrielle of Cool Ridge, Jason Carr of Cool Ridge; three brothers, Cheryl Lilly and his wife Gearlene of Mt. Airy, N.C., Keith Lilly and wife "Barbara Jean" of Cool Ridge, and Jeff Lilly of Cool Ridge; three sisters, Shelby Bennett of Cool Ridge, Jean Heishman and husband Spencer of Timberville, Va., and Dremma Smith and husband Jackie Cool Ridge; two grandchildren; Briar Lilly and Tori Lilly; three step grandchildren, John Mills, Trey Carr, and Alex Carr; and a special niece, Nikita Lilly of Cool Ridge.      Paul Daniel "Dan" Spangler Jr. Paul Daniel (Dan) Spangler, Jr. 53 of Roanoke passed away on Monday January 7, 2019 in Roanoke Virginia. A memorial service will be held in Simpson Funeral Home Chapel, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019 on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at 6:30pm with Pastor Troy Mays officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at Simpson Funeral Home until 8:00pm. Simpson Funeral Home will be handling all the arrangements. Dan Spangler was born to Paul D. Spangler, Sr. and Edith Spangler on September 17, 1965 in Roanoke, Virginia. He attended William Fleming High School and graduated in 1983. He worked as an auto parts counter clerk and a delivery person at Basham Oil Company for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends, repairing cars, watching football, especially the Chiefs, and racing. Dan went to the Indianapolis 500 on several occasions. He was really into anything about World War II, he liked reality TV, old black and white war movies and westerns. He really loved to listen to rock and roll in his spare time. Dan also enjoyed cooking for his Mom and trying out new recipes. One of his favorite pastimes was playing with his beloved puppy, Nikki. Dan is survived by his mother, Edith Spangler, his sister, Fay Lynn Spangler Perkins, and his nephew, Jonathon Ford Perkins. He is also survived by his aunts, Jean Spangler, Jeanine Spangler, Ruthie Haymaker, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul D. Spangler, Sr. Dan was well-liked and well-respected by everyone. He was a kind and caring son, brother, and uncle with a heart of gold and true and loyal to all his friends, always ready with a helping hand for all. Dan also had numerous friends that he loved and considered as family, such as his “brother” Ricky Kidd, Clayton and Patsy Surratt and family, Dave and Kathy Martin and family, Gary Long, and Terry Steele to name a few. Dan Spangler will truly be missed by us all.4 He was born on September 17, 1965 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,3,4 He died on January 7, 2019 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 53.4
