Mr. Ryan was born July 31, 1946 in Bucks County, Pa., to Thomas P. Ryan II and Kathryn M. Ryan. He was raised in Bucks County and joined the U.S. Navy Seabee Reserves while attending high school there. After graduation he left for active duty and was stationed in Puerto Rico. In early 1968 he moved to Fremont, Calif., where he met his future wife, Linnea (Lynne) Hornbuckle. They were married six months later, on Oct. 5, in Clearwater, Fla. She survives, living in Seaside. Mr. Ryan returned to Fremont and opened a swimming pool business. In 1994, he moved to Portland, and in 2001 he moved to Seaside where he was active in the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Development Association, the Advertising Committee, the SDDA Hot Rod Weekend Golf Tournament and, recently, the Lighthouse Jazz Society and Seaside Museum. Mr. Ryan enjoyed golf, cooking and baking, woodworking, remodeling projects and music. He played the guitar, bass guitar and keyboard. Family members say his grandchildren were the light of his life. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ryan is survived by two sons, Christopher Ryan of Beaverton and Robert Ryan of Portland; three grandchildren, Catherine and Jackson Ryan and Sarah Shelton; a sister, Kathryn Ulibarri of Petaluma, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania and California. on January 14, 2004.⁴
