Wayne Joseph Prosperie Sr. Mr. Wayne Joseph Prosperie, 71, of Lumberton, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. He was born in Port Arthur on October 1, 1949 to Frank and Dorothy Prosperie. Its hard to sum up the life of such a character as Wayne or the impact his love and life had on those around him. Wayne was a man that took his responsibilities and roles in life seriously; a devoted husband to his wife of 16 years, Kathie, and a wonderful family. A hard worker at whatever task lay before him, Wayne found his gardening in particular gave him yet another way to share with those around him; if he grew it, rest assured he gave it away and it was pretty hard to say no to Wayne! His love of outdoors and nature didn’t end with gardening, Wayne was also an avid fisher and liked to cast a reel anytime he could. Above all things though, Wayne loved his Harleys. You could ask Wayne a question about anything Harley related and he knew the answer on the spot; mechanical, historical, etc., it didn’t matter- Wayne was the definitive source of knowledge when it came to Harleys. Stubborn and independent, Wayne was a man who liked to do everything for himself. However, when it came to his family no one could love bigger or take better care of them than Wayne. His love, laughter, jokes, and all the small things that left such an impact on those around him will be deeply missed and he will not soon be forgotten. Left to cherish his life and carry on his memory is his beloved wife Kathie Higgins Prosperie; his children: Wayne Prosperie Jr., Brandy McNeil and husband Gareld, Molina Fenell and husband Lenord, Donny Stinson and wife Valerie; his siblings: Kenneth Prosperie and wife Peggy, Frank Dale Prosperie and wife Ginger, Elaine Romeo and Katherine Prosperie; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Frank J. Prosperie and Dorothy Hotard Prosperie.3 He was born on October 1, 1949 at Port Arthur, Jefferson Co., Texas.2,3 He married Sharon Marie Hamlin, daughter of James Junior Hamlin and Barbara Jo Jolene Brinkley, on January 3, 1982 at Jefferson Co., Texas.4 Wayne Joseph Prosperie Sr. and Sharon Marie Hamlin were divorced on June 27, 1995 at Jefferson Co., Texas.1 Wayne Joseph Prosperie Sr. died on July 21, 2021 at Texas at age 71.3

Wayne Joseph Prosperie Jr. On Saturday, Wayne Prosperie told his mom he would “always have her back, always.” But that night while in the 1100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Port Arthur, the 32-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash with a passenger car. “He was my only child,” Sharon Hamlin, Prosperie’s mother, said. Hamlin is trusting in God as she works through her grief. Her son’s comment of always having her back was mentioned in her Facebook post. Another of her posts tells of how her heart will forever be broken, missing a piece and that her son took that piece with him to Heaven. Prosperie, who was from Orange, worked at Mauriceville Special Utility District. He was so respected that on the night of his death, his boss called Hamlin to tell her the entire water department was at her disposal should she need anything. And, after work Monday, Prosperie’s co-workers showed up to help his mom, she said. “My son was loved by many people,” she said. “He was just one of those guys. There was nothing he wouldn’t tackle to do and was the first one to jump in the hole when there was a water leak.” And he did jump in some holes to fix water leaks as co-worker and friend Michael Bertrand showed in a video on his Facebook page. Hamlin said Bertrand was one of the utility district workers who showed up and stayed with her Monday. Hamlin said to know her son was to love him. “He had grown men crying because they lost their work mate and he won’t be at work again,” she said. Mom and son were close, she said. “He was a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll,” she said. Prosperie was driving his 2021 red Honda motorcycle when the fatal crash occurred. A 34-year-old female passenger on the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Hamlin said the woman is Prosperie’s girlfriend and that she is in an intensive care unit at a hospital in critical but stable condition. She is expected to recover but it will be a very long road, she said. The second vehicle involved in the crash was a 2011 Lincoln car. That driver was unharmed. Port Arthur Police Department’s Advanced Accident Reconstruction Unit and Criminal Investigations Division are handling the case. Hamlin said her son’s love for motorcycles came from his dad, and that she rides as well, adding “we love motorcycles.” “He died doing what he loved, that’s for sure,” she said. Prosperie leaves behind two children, ages 11 and 7. Hamlin called him a great dad. She plans to have a service in his honor following cremation.2 He was born on April 30, 1990 at Jefferson Co., Texas.1 He married Lindsey Michelle Delisle on February 12, 2010 at Jasper Co., Texas.3 Wayne Joseph Prosperie Jr. died on May 14, 2022 at Port Arthur, Jefferson Co., Texas, at age 32.2
