Born in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late John and Alice Fletcher Profitt. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert R. Stewart. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Nancy Blankenship and Mrs. Louise Ham of Bluefield, Mrs. Ethyl Anderson and Mrs. Lillian Vaines of Washington, D. C. and Mrs. Georgia Catron of Ohio; three sons, Hoge Boyd of Bluefield, Thomas Boyd of Rock Falls, Ill., and Harvey L. Bailey of Hyattsville, Md; 53 grandchildren; and 30 greatgrandchildren. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Bluefield. on March 9, 1973.2

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester E. Sowers. She is survived by her sons, Donald Sowers, Kenneth R. Sowers, Albert L. Sowers and wife, Belinda; daughters, Shirley Summers and husband, John, Barbara Crooke and husband, Johnny, Betty Huffman, and Phyllis Smith and husband, Barry. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Sherman Palmer; sister, Helen Craighead and husband, June whom she dearly loved, and Hazel Tolley. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Brian Center of Fincastle for their great care they gave to her over the years, and also to her granddaughter, Tracey Huffman, for her love and devotion and care she gave to her almost daily while at the Brian Center. A graveside service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park. on April 26, 2008.3
