     Mary Ellen Ferguson Mary Ellen Ferguson Hale of Roanoke, Va., entered a peaceful rest on Friday, February 10, 2017, that freed her from several years of suffering and pain. She was born on February 8, 1937 to Irvin and Garnett Ferguson who greeted her at Heaven’s gate along with her husband, David, and her two brothers, Kenneth and David. Left behind to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kathy Preston of Martinsville, and Joyce Goodwin of Roanoke; two brothers, Benjamin Ferguson of Rocky Mount, and J.D. Ferguson of Amarillo, Texas; and five grandchildren, Lynn Cline, Renee Johnson and husband, Teyon, Eric Law, Brad Shively and Gayle Goodwin Mazyck. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A special thank you to her great-grandchildren, Hailey Goodwin and her friend, Brandan Basham along with Malcolm Mazyck, her little man, and Patrice Mazyck whom she called her little nurse for all the care and love they gave their Nanny during her illness. Her “angel” and three-year-old great-great-granddaughter, Kimorah Goodwin, was also a great help. An extra special thank you to the physicians, nurses and sitters at Lewis Gale Medical Center for treating our mother like a queen. She will be laid to rest at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.4 She was buried at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Cloverdale Road, Cloverdale, Botetourt Co., Virginia.4,5 She was born on February 8, 1937 at Davie Co., North Carolina.5,2,3,4 As of April 1, 1966,her married name was Hale.2 She married David Lee Hale, son of Wilsie Julius Hale and Annie Blanche Collins, on April 1, 1966 at Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Virginia.2,4 Mary Ellen Ferguson died on February 10, 2017 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 80.4

Doris Pauline Jones was driving north on Virginia 122 around 2 p.m. in a 2005 Toyota Camry when a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Rebecca Shively Wright, 58, of Collinsville, traveling south on Virginia 122, crossed the center line and struck the Toyota, the release said. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, the release said. Jones died at the scene; Wright was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for her injuries. She died Dec. 21, the release said. Virginia State Police Senior Trooper D.H. Cepelnik and the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the crash, which is under investigation. on December 27, 2017.9
