She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Edward F. She was born on September 20, 1923 in Albemarle County, a daughter of the late Alonzo and Agnes (Kirby) Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Leonard Gowans, Jr. and Gaylon “Bill” Wood, Jr; a daughter, Becky Brown; a granddaughter, Allison Roberts; a great grandson, Dylan Richardson; two sisters; and one brother. Mildred retired from the University of Virginia Hospital. She was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church in Yancey’s Mill. She enjoyed cooking and birdwatching. Survivors include a son, Ralph D. Gowans and wife, Bonnie of Scottsville; a daughter, Hazel A. Bailey of Amherst; a son-in-law, Charlie Brown of Louisa; 6 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Brown; brothers, Garry Lee Brown and Larry Brown; wife, Rebecca (Becky) Lynn Brown; and grandson, Dylan Richardson. He was survived by his wife, Delores Ingram; son, Robert Brown; daughters, Amy Dorman and her husband Elzie; Melissa Bragg and her husband, Kelly; foster daughter, Cindy Perez; mother, Lillie Mae Brown; sisters, Brenda Porter-Key, Linda Bailey, and Bonnie Gowans; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. on August 23, 2020.⁴
