He was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Kanawha County to Thurman and Bertie Taylor Paxton. He graduated from Clendenin High School in 1950 and served in the Navy during the Korean War. For the last 47 years of his life, he made his home in St. Albans and retired from Union Carbide Corp. as a master laboratory technician after 40 years of service. He was a character in life and was a true friend to everyone he knew regardless of age or stature. He spent many hours cutting hair and telling jokes to friends throughout the county. He was a man who led by example in the way he treated others in his life, and in his death, as he was an organ donor. One of his fondest memories was the 19 years he spent teaching Sunday school at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in St. Albans. He will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend of 50 years, Betty Sparr Paxton. He is also survived by his brother, Kenny of Christiansburg, Va; son, Gary Michael; son, Tim and his wife, Tracey; and daughter, Kathy Lester and her husband, David, all of St. Albans; grandchildren, Christina Paxton Holder, Rebecca Paxton Seeley, and Samantha Paxton, all of Georgia, Shelby Paxton and Katie, Shannon, and Cassidy Lester, of St. Albans; six great-grandchildren. He is also mourned by many loving nieces, nephews and his special friend and brother-in-law, Paul Sparr and his wife, Jewel. on June 2, 2006.²

     Kenneth Lee Paxton Kenneth Lee Paxton, 78, of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Bertie Paxton; son, Jon Paxton; and brother, Woodrow Paxton. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Paxton; sons, Kenneth ‘Kip’ Paxton and wife, Katie, Jeff Paxton, and Chris Wilkinson and wife, Kellie; grandchildren, Benje Paxton and Braxton Gill; as well as three great-grandchildren.      Betty Sparr was buried at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.³ She was born on December 10, 1932 at Kanawha Co., West Virginia.² As of circa 1956,her married name was Paxton.¹ She married Geary Woodrow Paxton, son of Thurman Woodrow Paxton and Bertie May Taylor, circa 1956.¹ Betty Sparr died on April 13, 2008 at St. Albans, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 75.² She Betty Sparr Paxton, 75, of St. Albans died at home April 13, 2008, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Kanawha County to Leslie E. Sparr and Altha R. Sparr and spent the past 42 years in St. Albans. After graduating from Clendenin High School and Marshall University, she became a teacher at Bridge Elementary in Falling Rock. Once she had her first son she decided to become a stay at home mom to raise her family. She was an avid Marshall University sports fan and loved to play cards with her special Bridge buddies. Surviving: daughter, Kathy Lester (husband, David) of St. Albans; sons, Gary Michael and Tim (wife, Tracey) both of St. Albans; brother, Paul Sparr (wife, Jewel) of Lakeland, Fla; grandchildren, Christina Paxton Holder, Rebecca Paxton Seeley and Samantha Paxton Hoover, all of Georgia, Shelby Paxton and Katie, Shannon and Cassidy Lester, all of St. Albans; seven great-grandchildren. on April 15, 2008.²

Born Nov. 30, 1912, at Madison Creek, he was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Bertha Burgess Paynter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Gaye Paynter; his second wife, Dorothy Jane Paynter; two sisters, Pearl and Goldie Edith Paynter; and six brothers, Arnold, George, Dexter, Eugene, Leonard and John Henry Paynter. Calvin was a retired coalminer, formerly employed by Powellton Coal Company, and was a former logger. He was a member of the UMWA. Calvin was the oldest male member of Mallory Church of God, which he attended for over 40 years. He loved to sing and play gospel music on his guitar and harmonica. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Thelma Canterbury Paynter of Charleston; seven children and their spouses, Lois Brown of Greenville, Tenn., Kathleen and the Rev. James Walker of Oceana, Joyce and the Rev. Phillip L. Cook of Monticello, Fla., Carole Cook of Cyclone, Robert and Judy Paynter of Oceana, Charles and Wendy Paynter of Cyclone and Joseph and Dorothy Paynter of Pineville; one stepdaughter, with whom he made his home, Billie Jones and husband, Jerry, of Charleston; four sisters, Donzel Blankenship of Turkey Creek, Mary Ruth Elkins of Mallory and Bonnie Eldridge and Nancy Miller, both of Cyclone; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren. Burial will follow in Cook Cemetery, Cyclone. on February 21, 2006.²

Charles was born November 30, 1940, in Spencer and was the son of the late Clifford L. and Emoneal Cottrell Davis. He worked for the sweater factory for many years, was a heavy equipment operator, was a bus driver for Roane County schools, was a member of the American Baptist Association and pastored several area churches over the years. He was the current pastor of Alexander Baptist Church, Spencer. He enjoyed many things including hunting, fishing, archery, woodworking, gardening, raising bantam chickens and sharing his faith. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janet S. Harper Davis; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bill and Debbie Davis Greathouse of Walton, Mike and Charla Davis Roberts of Spencer and Darrin and Christa Davis Epling of Ripley; brother, Larry D. Davis of Spencer; two sisters, Glenna J. Jarvis of Waskom, Texas, and Linda G. Blosser of Long Bottom, Ohio; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Hebron Memorial Cemetery, Spencer. on September 9, 2011.²
