Eva Beatrice Downey Eva Beatrice Downey Ross Newcomb, 83, of The Woodlands, Clifton Forge and formerly of 293 Fieldale Road, Eagle Rock, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Eva was of the Advent Christian faith. She was born September 8, 1928 in Alleghany County to the late Charles Russell Downey and Clara Rickman Downey. She was a retired molder of 36 years with the former H.O. Canfield Company of Iron Gate. Eva was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Newcomb, who passed away July 20, 2005. They met again in Heaven on their 42nd Wedding Anniversary. She was also preceded in death by three of her brothers: Ashton Downey, Olen Downey, and Bill Downey as well as a sister Nancy Downey Morton; and her first husband, Ollie William Ross. Mrs. Newcomb was the devoted, loving mother to her six surviving children: Judy Ross Humphreys and husband Raymond of Clifton Forge; Shirley Lowe and friend Clyde Boardwine of Lebanon; Jerry Ross, Sr. and wife Brenda of Eagle Rock; Larry Ross and wife Lolita of Eagle Rock; Eddie Newcomb of Eagle Rock; and Debbie Boardwine and husband Brian of Lebanon. Also, a sister Hester “Jimmy” Fisher of Williamsburg, and a brother, Raymond Downey and wife Gladys of Clifton Forge. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Bobby Humphreys of Cloverdale; Angela Johnson and husband Eugene of Vinton, Jerry Ross, Jr. “Buddy” and wife Kathy of Eagle Rock, Cheryl H. McWilliams and husband Jeff of Massanutten, Crystal Craig of Boones Mill, and Teresa H. Windsor and husband Steve of Eagle Rock. Eva is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Until we meet again, Eva will be genuinely missed. She is remembered by her family as a loving, caring, selfless, and high-spirited lady. She was an excellent cook and baker and shared with others her gift of hospitality. Interment will follow at Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Gala, Eagle Rock. She lived her early years in Elizabethtown and eventually went to Fayetteville where she attended Elon College. Sue met her husband, Richard at a Baptist church. They spent a couple of years in France and eventually moved to Roanoke, Virginia where they spent a year and a half before moving to Pearisburg, Virginia then Peterstown, West Virginia before settling back down in Roanoke. Sue was a lady who loved the Lord and had a strong faith in Jesus that led her life’s path. She was a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church. She worshiped the Lord daily. She was a secretary for a medical doctor in Fayetteville North Carolina and worked at Sears as an accountant and a homemaker. Sue was a loving mother and wife. She enjoyed being with her family especially her children and grandchildren, sewing, plants and flowers. In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by her son, Carl Channing Newcomb, 3 sisters and 8 brothers. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Richard Madison Newcomb; brothers, Robert C. Bordeaux, Demette Gordon Bordeaux: children: Susan Newcomb Conner, Richard Newcomb Jr., Gloria Newcomb Brown, Keith Newcomb, Chris Newcomb, and Beverly Moore; grandchildren: Theresa Tucker, Aaron Conner, Michael Conner, Alzado Brown, Kaily Martinod, Preston Newcomb, Austen Smith, Zoe Egesdal, and Sarah Moore; great-grandchildren: Charlotte Tucker, Randolph “Tre” Tucker, Brixley Brown, Ezra Martinod, and Elliott Smith. Carl was born April 13, 1964 to his parents Richard and Sue Bordeaux Newcomb. He was raised in Roanoke, Virginia and graduated from Northside High School. Carl later graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1986 with a Bachelor's degree in Business. While there, he was a member of the ROTC and continued to obtain the rank of Captain in the Army Reserve. Carl is survived by his parents; his older siblings Susan Awilda Connor, Richard Madison Newcomb, Gloria Jill Newcomb Brown, and Keith Lyle Newcomb; his younger siblings Chris Elliot Newcomb, and Beverly Kay Moore, and his son Preston Madison Newcomb. Carl was a man who felt God’s love and followed his faith in everything he did. He was a generous and caring person to everyone he met. He was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist church where he greeted the members every Sunday, enjoyed fellowship, and helped with church projects. Carl was a loving father who enjoyed time with his son who shared his interest in auto repair. A private burial with full military honors will be held at Godwin Cemetery Fincastle, VA.2 He was born on April 13, 1964 at Giles Co., Virginia.2,3,4 He married Elizabeth Anne Wildey on February 11, 1990 at Hampton, Virginia.4 Carl Channing Newcomb married Amber Lee Purdy on January 2, 2010 at Albemarle Co., Virginia.4 Carl Channing Newcomb died on June 4, 2022 at Virginia at age 58.2
