Mr. Briggs died at 6:32 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 5, 2006) at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville. He was born March 10, 1913, in Danville, a son of William Madison and Mima Thomas Briggs. He married Irene Six on June 10, 1933. She died in August 1990. Survivors include a son, Richard Terry Briggs of Raleigh, N.C; a sister, Mary Lou Slifer of Bunnell, Fla; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Briggs attended Daniel Grade School and graduated from Danville High School in 1930. He worked at Pete Rush grocery in Richmond and retired as the owner of Redshift and Ball. He was a member of Old Congregational Church in Danville, Olive Branch Masonic Lodge 38 and Valley of Danville Scottish Rite. He was a charter member of the Deluxe Breakfast Club. Mr. Briggs enjoyed Danville history and recorded videos of well-known buildings and businesses. on January 8, 2006.2
