A native of Montgomery County, he was a Vinton area resident for the past five years. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railway as a yard conductor after 30 years of service.      Carlton Green Thomas Carlton Green Thomas, December 22, 1959 — June 17, 2016. Hi, my name is Carlton Green Thomas, age 56 of Roanoke. I lost a good fight but I gained the kingdom of God on Friday, June 17, 2016. My greatest accomplishment was being a father and friend to my son Carl. I am so proud of the man that he has become. To my daughter Ruth Thomas although we were separated I loved you with all my heart and longed to know you. I was blessed to have two sisters that I adored Pat Beckner and May Thomas you both made me the man I was oh I almost forgot about the twisted sister, Ginger Quinn who tried to keep me in line. I also have a brother Lynnwood Thomas, thanks for our time together last year and making the long trip to see me in my last days. I was also blessed with great nieces and nephews: Barbara, Paul, Jay and April and their off springs; you know who you are. I have many other brothers that I loved and shared good times with: Tokey, Wayne, Gary, and Daniel. There were a few extra sons that liked spending time with this old man: Cody, Jon, Ben and Chandler. My favorite past time was to go fishing with some of these great folks and relax and drink a Miller High Life. If I failed to mention you please keep me in your heart because I love you everyone that crossed my path especially the little ones who just knew I was Santa Clause sorry I was just one of his elves. Remember I will miss you until we meet again. I leave this earth to join my father Curtis Thomas and my mom Ruth Thomas. I can't wait to see the thunderstorm form above and get the bird’s eye view so as you look up I will be looking down one each of my love ones.      Patricia Ann Thomas Pat Beckner, October 25, 1946 — May 16, 2023. Patricia “Pat” Beckner, 76, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023. She lived in Roanoke but was a long-time resident of Boones Mill. She was proceeded in death by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her parents Ruth and Curtis Thomas; her son Tex Hodges; brother Carlton Thomas; and sister May Thomas. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Colin) Gee, Paul (Christina) Beckner, Jay (Sherri) Beckner; niece April Tayloe; and nephew Carl Thomas; grandchildren, Josh (Jennifer), Andrew, Kristen, Cheyanne (Craig), Katie (Matthew), Kayla (Sutton), Jordan, and Kaleb (Brooke); seventeen great-grandchildren; and her partner, Ginger Quinn. Pat was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church, proudly graduated from Grace Bible Institute. She also did Clown Ministry at the Rescue Mission Shelter. Pat along with Ginger did missionary work in Guatemala and also in Kenya with Jay, Sherry and Kayla. She also went to Welch, West Virginia with a Roanoke Valley United Methodist group. Pat loved life, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply. Her stepmother, Martha, said it best, “she loved people inside and out.” She had a contagious smile, a huge heart, loved to travel and read books with a good cup of coffee. She was also a great listener with a nurturing soul. She grew to love cooking. Pat liked to visit wineries, especially with friends and enjoyed striking up a conversation with other winos too. Pat loved teaching swimming lessons at Lancelot Sports Complex for over 25 years and water aerobics. She managed Stop In Food Stores in Roanoke, Salem, Wirtz and Boones Mill, Virginia. She also taught at Hollywood School of Beauty and met many longtime friends and she also worked at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.³ She was born on October 25, 1946 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,5,3 As of April 6, 1961,her married name was Hodges.² She married Douglas Forrest Hodges on April 6, 1961 at York, York Co., South Carolina.² Patricia Ann Thomas and Douglas Forrest Hodges were divorced on January 30, 1964 at Roanoke, Virginia.² As of January 17, 1965,her married name was Beckner.¹ Patricia Ann Thomas married Paul Clayton Beckner on January 17, 1965 at Roanoke, Virginia.¹ Patricia Ann Thomas died on May 16, 2023 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 76.³
