Born in Hamilton county, she had lived in Indianapolis for 10 years and in Marion county for 16 years. She was a member of the Christian church in Donelson. Three daughters, Mrs. Donald Umbarger, of Logansport; Mrs. Doit Myler, of Nashville; Mrs. Max Comerford, of Laotto, and two sons, Willard D., of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Paul, of LaCrescenta, Calif., survive. Also surviving are two brothers, William S. Burkhardt, of Indianapolis; Clarence W., of Ann Arbor, Mich; Mrs. John Yarling, of Rosenburg, Tex; Mrs. Roy Chapple, 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; on August 10, 1959.³

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Josephine Burkhardt; the son Glenn; two sisters, Mrs. John A. Yarling of Rosenburg. Tex., and Mrs. Vola Chappel of Indianapolis, and a brother C. W. Burkhardt of Ann Arbor, Mich. on March 28, 1962.⁶

Survivors Include his widow, Mrs. Grace Essig Burkhart, two daughter, Miss Virginia Burkhart of Philadelphia, Pa; Mrs. Shirley Cummings of Akron, O; one step daughter, Mrs. June Ann Reynolds, of Elwood; one sister, Mrs. Stella Yarling of Rosenburg, Texas; and one granddaughter. Burial will be in the Elwood city cemetery. on September 20, 1969.⁴ He died on September 20, 1969 at Elwood, Madison Co., Indiana, at age 79.^4,7
