Earles, Jr., 23, of Radford, was found dead by a younger brother about 1 p.m. today in a boat on the New River just east of the N&W tie yards. Earles and his brother, Maurice, had been fishing the morning, and Maurice had gone to a nearby restaurant to obtain lunch. Upon returning to the boat he found his brother's head and shoulders in the water, and the rest of the body in the boat. Chief W. W. Carden of the Radford Rescue Crew, stated that he and members of his crew were called and gave Earles artificial respiration without any results. Carden said that it was his opinion that the boy was dead before he reached the water. Earles had served two years and seven months in the Army in Germany, and had been discharged in May because of injuries sustained from an electric shock. He was a corporal at the time of discharge. The Radford City coroner, Dr. H. L. Dean, reported late Friday night that an autopsy was being performed to determine the cause of the youth's death, but the results would not be available until sometime Saturday. Earles, Sr; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Marie Hypes and Patricia Earles, both of Radford; three brothers, Henry H., William B., and Maurice Earles, all of Radford. on June 30, 1951.9
