F, b. April 22, 1934, d. March 28, 2010
Velma Kay Seldomridge Velma Kay (Seldomridge) Vroman April 22, 1934 – March 28, 2010. Our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, Velma Kay (Seldomridge) Vroman passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010 at home surrounded by the love, care, and compassion of her family. Kay passed through the veil and now lives peacefully in the presence of her Heavenly Father, reunited with those who have preceded her in death. She was 75. Special thanks and consideration to Kay's daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Larry Earl Doolittle, and Larry's cousin (Kay's friend), Edith Louise Barbee, without whom Kay could not have been cared for at home. Velma Kay Seldomridge was born April 22, 1934, to Doey E. Seldomridge and Minnie E. (Blake) Seldomridge in Craig, Colorado. She and her only sister Faye were raised in Craig and attended school in the Moffat County School District. Kay cherished her childhood friendships from in and around the Craig community. The Seldomridge family homesteaded in the area and operated the saw mill. Kay met her heart's soulmate, Duane James Vroman, and they were married November 8, 1950 in Casper, Wyoming. From this blessed union came seven children. In pursuit of work, Kay and Duane lived in Craig, Colorado, Vallejo and San Diego, California, Williston, North Dakota, Casper and Riverton, Wyoming, Denver, Grand Junction, Palisade and Mesa, Colorado. They divorced in 1965 and were later remarried August 29, 1985. Mrs. Vroman's life was rich in a heritage stemming from deeply ingrained American roots. Both sides of her family were instrumental in homesteading and settling this country, both back East in West Virginia and here in Colorado. From her ancestry and her own experiences she learned a variety of skills. Some of these included dry cleaning, shirt laundry, sewing, carpentry, home remodeling, decorating, hair dressing, bookkeeping, flooring, canning, farming, and ranching. Kay refined her sewing skills and became a fine seamstress. In 1966 she went back to school to obtain her GED. She then attended Mesa College to become an intake technician for the Mesa County Department of Social Services and advanced her career to become a Supervisor of Eligibility. In later years she was a bookkeeper for the Urie Ranch owned by her stepfather and mother, Alex and Minnie Urie. Her organization, work ethic, and professionalism made her an example and asset to the communities in which she lived. Kay developed a deep abiding appreciation for music, art, and the absolute miracle of God's gifts of nature and wildlife. Kay and Duane had a life-long relationship with their Heavenly Father and their Savior, Jesus Christ. Their children will continue to carry these teachings with them throughout their lives. Kay cherished her family and family gatherings for holidays, weddings, birthdays fishing, hunting, and camping trips. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend and was always ready to lend an ear. She was kind, gentle, caring, compassionate, generous, and demonstrated a great capacity for forgiveness. She conducted herself in a professional and business-like manner, was immaculate in personal grooming, and very ladylike with a spark for fun. Kay is preceded in death by her husband, Duane James Vroman, and two children lost by miscarriage; her father, Doey Elbert Seldomridge; her mother, Minnie Evelyn Urie; her stepfather, Alex Urie; her nephew, Richard P.
