Survivors include his beloved wife, Marcella June Thompson Barefield; two daughters, Rebecca Adkins of Georges Creek, and Christina Farrow of Mentor, Ohio; three sons, Herbert Barefield Jr. of Cabin Creek, Allen Barefield of Belle, Jonathan Barefield of South Carolina; four stepchildren, Michael and Timothy Lanham, Debra Rose and Beverly Rider; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ritha Barefield Hamilton of Cross Lanes. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Ward Cemetery on Kelleys Creek with the Rev. Ronald Massey officiating. on July 28, 2004.⁴
