Mrs. Harter was born on June 25, 1946 in Blakely, West Virginia to the late Robert Rexal Waugh and Mary Francis (Butterworth) Hill. On July 6, 2000 in Goshen, Indiana she married Fred L. Harter, he survives in Jones, Michigan. She was the owner and operator of Morning Glory Day Care which is fondly known to many young children as “Nana’s House.” Charlotte deeply loved children and had a passion for taking care of them, she also enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her family which she will be deeply missed by. Charlotte is survived by her husband Fred, three daughters and three sons in law; Lesa and David Dowden of Cassopolis, Michigan, Cynthia and Ron Ohner of Lehigh, Florida and Rhonda and Matthew Cloud of Union, Michigan. Nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and one great grandchild expected. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters; Tony Hill, Alice Workman, Kay Workman and Ruby Hahaj; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart; Pastor Andy Martin will officiate the service. Surviving are sons and a daughter-in-law, Christopher Newhouse, Ronald and Kimberly Newhouse, all of Sissonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Kenneth Strickland, Loraine and Johnie McGraw, Colleen and Michael Bryan, all of Sissonville, Denise and Erick McKinney of Elkview; brother, Clifford Shaffer of Florida; sisters, Odessa and Mildred Burdette, both of Sissonville; grandchildren, Darlene and Lee Strickland, Kyra McGraw, Angela Dingess, Melissa Hughes, Michael and Nathan Bryan, Kelsie Newhouse and Tyler Good; great-grandchildren, Rudy and Kaitlyn Strickland, Anthony and Andrew Hughes; five step-grandchildren, Austin Carte, Corey Glass, Kiaira Mae, Alexis and Isaac Canterbury. Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston with the Rev. Al Mendez and the Rev. Roy Moles officiating. Burial will be in John Beane Cemetery, Sissonville. on January 20, 2004.¹
