     Hazel A. Best Mrs. Hazel Fleming, 58, of Knox RD 1, widow of John B. Fleming, dies at 3:15 a.m. Sunday in Allegheny General Hospital at Pittsburgh following an extended illness. Mrs. Fleming had been employed for 11 years at the H.B. Beels Insurance Agency in Knox before accepting employment at Polk Center, where she worked a year before her illness. She was born October 10, 1918, at Wentlings Corner, a daughter of George and Ada Master Best. She and John B. Fleming were married December 16, 1939. He died March 13, 1962. Mrs. Fleming was a member of the United Church of Christ in Lamartine. She was Worthy Matron of the Emlenton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at the time of her death, a member of the Lady Rebekah Lodge in Emlenton and Richland Grange at Emlenton RD 1. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn S. and P. Diane Fleming, at home; Two sons, John B. Fleming, Jr., of Plato, Missouri, and Roger W. Fleming, in service and stationed in Alaska; three grandchildren, Douglas Clay and John B. Fleming III of Plato and Stephen Fleming of Alaska; a brother, Albert M. Best of New Holland, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be recieved after 7 pm today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Tuesday at the William N. Rupert Funeral Home in Knox, where funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday. Pastor Samuel Swick of the United Church of Christ in Lamartine will officiate. He spent his last six months at a VA care facility where he was well taken care of by wonderful medical personnel. Mr. Burrows is survived by his wife, Barbara, children Joe and Amber, his parents, Roland and Isabel Burrows, two brothers, Allen and David, two sisters, Mende and Peggy and several nieces and nephews. on February 8, 2005.2

She was born Dec. 19, 1915, near Limestoneville, Montour County, a daughter of the late Elmer D. and Sarah Ellen (Hottenstein) Schnure. On July 17, 1949, at Paradise Church in Milton, she married Robert R. Whitehill. They then lived in North Warren. He died on Dec. 14, 1998. Arleine graduated from Milton High School; Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in home economics; and Columbia University with a master's degree in education. From 1944 to 1945, she served for 15 months with the American Red Cross in England and France. Arleine was a teacher of home economics for 30 years, first in Northumberland and Hepburnville before moving to Warren, where she was a home economist for Warren County. Later, she taught home economics in Warren public schools until her retirement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Warren, for 50 years, where she served as deacon and elder. She also served as president of the Presbyterian women of the church. In 2000, she rejoined Paradise United Church of Christ, Milton. Arleine was a member and past president of the Association of College Women of Warren; a member and past president of Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; an active member of Church Women United; and a member of Warren-Forest Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Surviving are one son, David Robert Whitehill, of Russell; one brother, Samuel Schnure, of Lebanon, Ohio; 19 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were three brothers, Edgar Schnure, Herman Schnure and E. Delrue Schnure, and four sisters, Augusta Foose, Ethel Rishel, Lois Wheeler and Sarah Ellen Mack. Funeral services will be held at a later date. on December 6, 2007.2

During his employment at Edinboro University of PA, he developed with E.U.P., one of the first barrier free college campuses for wheel chair bound individuals. Nevin was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Edinboro, where he served as deacon and elder. He was a life time member of Oasis Lodge No. 416, F&AM; the Scottish Rite, Valley of Erie; the Zem Zem Shrine Temple and a member of the West County Shrine. His life of community service also included, past chairman of the Edinboro Civil Service Commission, past president of the Edinboro Cemetery Association, and past president of the PA Association of Retired Employees. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joanne Whitehill Smith; two sisters, Carolyn Smith and Neva Minnis. Nevin is survived by a son, Dr. Nelson M. Smith and his fiance', Kate Bender, of Edinboro; a daughter, Karen Gardner and her husband, Bill, of Boothwyn, Pa; a brother, Selden M. Smith of Edinboro and many loving nieces and nephews. on April 5, 2005.6
