He was born November 12, 1896, in Beaver Township, Jefferson County, son of Maurice Louraine and Laura Yount Smith, and was married to Sara Shillips in 1936 at Titusville. A farmer all of his life, Mr. Smith was a director of Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company; was a member of the Clarion County Holstein Association; was named Master Farmer; a past director of the DCSA, and a member of the Senior Citizens of Summerville. He attended the Zion Lutheran Church at Shannondale. He is survived by his wife; a son, Loward Louraine Smith II, of R.D.I, Mayport; a daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Maxine) Himes, of Fairmont City; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and three brothers, Fred M. Smith, R.D.I, Mayport; Charles Smith, R.D.3, Brookville; and Kenneth P. Smith, R.D.I, Mayport. Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, at the Charles D. Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn, the Rev. James Cable officiating. Interment was in the family plot in the Smith Cemetery, Beaver Township, Clarion County. on March 10, 1977.4

Army in World War II. In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son James H. of Clarion; one daughter, Mrs. Cherie K. Elder of Phoenix, Ariz; four grandchildren, Debra McCall and James Kifer of Clarion and Scott Elder and Melissa Elder of Phoenix and two brothers, Everette E. Kifer and Meade R. Kifer both of Clarion. Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday (today) from the Gerald L. Goble Funeral Home in Clarion with the Rev. W. LeRoy Jones officiating. Burial was in Clarion Cemetery. on May 25, 1982.5

He enjoyed hunting out west and playing cards, especially poker. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by two sons and their wives, Howard L. III and Shirley Smith of Anderson, SC and John A. and Lucy Smith of Mayport; two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Kenneth Rapp of Jamestown, NY and Deborah and Terry Rapp of Mayport; a sister and her husband, Maxine and Lewis Himes of Fairmount City; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, a grandson, Stephen, preceded him in death. Visitation was held Monday, May 29, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville, PA. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor James Steingass of the Shannondale Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Hazel A. Best Mrs. Hazel Fleming, 58, of Knox RD 1, widow of John B. Fleming, dies at 3:15 a.m. Sunday in Allegheny General Hospital at Pittsburgh following an extended illness. Mrs. Fleming had been employed for 11 years at the H.B. Beels Insurance Agency in Knox before accepting employment at Polk Center, where she worked a year before her illness. She was born October 10, 1918, at Wentlings Corner, a daughter of George and Ada Master Best. She and John B. Fleming were married December 16, 1939. He died March 13, 1962. Mrs. Fleming was a member of the United Church of Christ in Lamartine. She was Worthy Matron of the Emlenton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at the time of her death, a member of the Lady Rebekah Lodge in Emlenton and Richland Grange at Emlenton RD 1. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn S. and P. Diane Fleming, at home; Two sons, John B. Fleming, Jr., of Plato, Missouri, and Roger W. Fleming, in service and stationed in Alaska; three grandchildren, Douglas Clay and John B. Fleming III of Plato and Stephen Fleming of Alaska; a brother, Albert M. Best of New Holland, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be recieved after 7 pm today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Tuesday at the William N. Rupert Funeral Home in Knox, where funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday. Pastor Samuel Swick of the United Church of Christ in Lamartine will officiate.
