     Lela L. McGaughey was buried at Starr Cemetery, Nineveh, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.^1,2 She was born on September 2, 1893 at Ambrose, Indiana Co., Pennsylvania.¹ As of 1936,her married name was Whisner.¹ She married Edward Franklin "Eddie" Whisner, son of Albinus B. "Al" "Albines" Whisner and Mary Etta "Ettie" Reed, in 1936.¹ Lela L. She was born September 2, 1893 [1894], in Ambrose, Indiana County, a daughter of Scott and Margaret Lukehart McGaughey. In 1916 she married William E. Slicker. In 1936 she married Edward F. Whisner, who died in 1967. Mrs. Whisner, a housewife, was affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Eugene L. Slicker of Ravenna, Ohio, Bernard M. Slicker of Hobart, Ind. and Donald M. Slicker of New Castle; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Orvil Whisner of New Jersey and William Whisner of Shippenville RD; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Harold (Twila) Gilford of Lickingville; six step grandchildren and one step great granddaughter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one daughter. Friends may call at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Rev. George Crooks, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Clarion, officiating. Interment will be in Star cemetery. on March 15, 1973.¹

Mrs. Black enjoyed painting, doing crafts, gardening, dancing and traveling. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Madison Street Methodist Church in Chester and was a Cub Scout De Mother in Chester. Mrs. Black was the wife of the late Joseph Louis "Blackie" Black Sr., who died in 1993. Survivors: Sons, Francis A. Black of Wilmington, Del., Joseph L. Black Jr. of New London, Kenneth D. Black of Delaware City, Del., and Michael A. Black of Upper Chichester daughter, Karen L. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Kaniefski-Kendus-D'Anjolell Memorial Home, 3900 W. Ninth Street, Trainer. Visitation: After 7 p.m. tonight and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, Lower Chichester. on August 2, 2006.⁴

She was born December 10, 1918 in Albion, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Mabel Cutshall Dunlap. She had been married to Lee Black and subsequently married John C. Byham January 11, 1997. He preceded her in death December 13, 2002. She was a 1935 graduate of Randolph-East Mead High School. She worked as a custodian at Northwestern School District for 24 years. She was a homemaker who also was owner/operator of Albion Lanes. She had previously been a pinball machine vendor and worked in appliance and propane gas sales. She enjoyed bowling and knitting. She was a former volunteer at Meadville Medical Center, Crawford County READ program, and Hotline in Erie, a former United Way program. She was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Baker of Owasso, OK; 5 sons, Charles Dunlap and his wife Mary of Silsbee, TX; Lee Edward Black and his wife Jaquelin of Houston, TX; Francis Black of Lexington, KY; Glen Black and his wife Grace of Albion; and T.J. Black and his wife Cindy of Conneaut, OH; a step-daughter, Judith Ridle of Meadville; 2 stepsons, William R. Byham and his wife Marsha of Guys Mills and John F. Byham and his wife Mary Ann of Meadville; a brother, Leroy Dunlap and his wife Lucy of El Paso, TX; a sister, Frances Brooks of Albion; 27 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Henry Allan Smith; 3 brothers, Allan, Harry, and Edward Dunlap; and 2 sisters, Gladys Carr and Lee Wolfe. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced.
