He was a graduate of Barrackville High School, Fairmont State University and he obtained his Masters Degree from The Kent State University. William made his career in education, having been employed by Midview Schools as the principal of Eaton, Belden and East Carlisle Elementary Schools and Assistant Superintendent. His passion for education was felt by students, parents and teachers alike. He was the recipient of The Midview Schools Make a Difference Hall of Honor in 2010. William was an active member of the LaPorte United Methodist Church, Lorain County Scottish Rite Society, Lorain County Shrine Club, Shriners International, 32nd degree A.A.S.R. Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, UMC, Grand Lodge F & A.M. Avon Lake, Ohio and was a honorary FFA Member. In addition to his love and time spent with family and friends, he enjoyed wood working, golf (having 4 hole in 1's), fishing, furniture refinishing, camping (member of the Four Season Trail Trippers) and traveling abroad, having been to 49 of our United States and many countries including China, Australia, Russia and the Holy Land. He was a season ticket holder of the Cleveland Browns for over 30 years. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, wife of 62 years, Nancy (Hess); daughters Kelly Reed Kirkbride (Bill) and Kimberly Reed Caylor (Mike). Grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Rebecca, Colleen, Tara and great-grandchildren, Briana, Myamor, Autumn, Mackenzie, Corrina and Oliver. William was survived by his brother Ronald E. Reed (Marilyn). He was often heard telling his beloved grandchildren to "Keep your powder dry". on January 26, 2019.3
