Ernest married Betty June Valentine on June 26, 1948. He was also in the Air National Guard in Nebraska. He went to the Elgin watch making school, did combining, and worked at Kerr Plastics Tool & Die. He also worked at Hastings Industries and owned and operated Valentine Motel in Grand Island. In 2003, they moved to Hastings, where he was a member of First United Methodist Church. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tedd Whipple; stepchildren, Kenny and Denny Berding; and sister, Edna. Survivors include his wife, Betty June Whipple of Hastings; two daughters and a son-in-law, Teri and Tam Nguyen of Hastings and Karen Roehm of Gunnison, Colo; a sister, Leona Argotsinger of Gloversville, N.Y; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law and spouse, LaVona and Edward J. Murphy of Hastings. on January 23, 2016.3
