He was born Oct. 19, 1927, at Newark, N.J., a son of Herman S. and Mary Valentine Couper Meeteer. He had been a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, where he had served as an elder and clerk of the session. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in Okinawa, and was in the Naval Reserve until 1955. He was a 50-year member of the Griffith Newman American Legion Post No. 131, from which he received the American Legion Medal for Heroism. He also received, for the same act, the Carnegie Hero Medal of Honor, on Jan. 4, 1963. He retired from DuPont in 1981 with more than 33 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bette Johnson Meeteer; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wesley R. and Alice K. Meeteer of Waynesboro and William S. Meeteer of Waynesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen M. and Arnold B. Doyle Jr. of Stuarts Draft, Cynthia M. and Rodger A. Doyle of Elon, N.C., and Laura M. and William O. Atkins of Waynesboro; two sisters, Winifred Mary Brown of Waynesboro and Vida Bardsley of Oak Park, Ill; 12 grandchildren, Joel M., A. Blair III, Daniel S. and Brian A. Doyle, Kara M. Trail, Benjamin C. Doyle, Kameron K. and Wesley R. Meeteer II, Kimberley H. and William Michael Atkins, Afton N. Meeteer and Cynthia L. Atkins; a great-grandson, James Timothy Trail; his mother-in-law, Audrey Holt Miller, of Waynesboro; three brothers-in-law, E. Eugene Johnson and his wife, Ginny T. Johnson, Robert T. and Richard H. Johnson; nieces and nephews and special friends. A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church by James R. Black, Valena M. Hoy and Kenneth M. Brown, with interment at Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro. Pallbearers will be his grandsons; and Tracy Tomes and Theodore Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Shirley Kiger, Cory Hartbarger, Bill Haskins, Boodie Freidman, Dick Robertson, Bob Novak, Robert, Richard and Eugene Johnson, Bob and Robbie Atkins, and Ken Trail. on May 9, 2000.4

Morris passed away on January 12, 2012 at her home in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, surrounded by her beloved dogs. Candy was born on February 1, 1952 to Col. Joseph B. and June Rothwell and while her parents were stationed in Fukuoka, Island of Kyushu, Japan. Candy founded MICA Associates, Inc. in 1992 and served as its CEO until her death. Candy was known and appreciated for her intelligence, strength of character, resilience, sense of humor and enormous heart. Candy was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Joseph B. Rothwell, Jr., and her husband, Mike Morris. She is survived by her sisters, Victoria Rothwell and Deborah Gossett, her special friend Maxwell W. Hamilton, friends with whom she shared many good times, and her dogs Bug, Buddy, Sadie and Dixon.
