It began with service in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Crash Fire Fighting Crew at Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. Upon completion of his military service, Mr. Guilliams was with the City of Newport News Fire Service, the City of Alexandria Fire Service, and Prince William County Fire Service. Moving into the Federal Fire Service, Mr. Guilliams was with the Panama Canal Fire Service for ten years, working his way through the ranks to the position of Chief. Followed by a ten year tour with the U.S. Navy Fire Service in Yokosuka, Japan. Again, attaining the rank of Chief. Mr. Guilliams' last position was as Deputy Chief Fire Marshall for the U.S. Navy, headquartered in Washington, D.C. Upon retirement, Mr. Guilliams made his home in Prince Edward County. Mr. Guilliams is survived by his wife of 41 years, Phyllis; two sisters, Elaine Austin of San Antonio, Texas and Charlotte Krell of Dallas, Texas; and a brother, Charles David Guilliams of Arlington, Va. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 17, 2003 at 12 noon in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, Va. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. on October 15, 2003.⁴
