Born June 19, 1892, in Floyd, Va., her husband, Haymond Backus, died in 1951. Survivors include two sons, Oliver Stump of Route 1, Fayetteville and James Stump of Route 2, Fayetteville; one daughter, Mrs. Della Mae Ping of South Bend, Ind; three brothers, Jack and Bailey Smith, both of Copperhill, Va., and Jim Smith of Roanoke. Va; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Schelling of Roanoke, Va., and Mrs. Ettie Stump of Bluefield; 12 grandchildren and 20 greatgrandchildren. on September 5, 1973.1

Born April 7, 1935, at Gatewood, he was the son of the late John M. Wimmer and Allie Gay Stump Wimmer. He also was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sarah Moore. Johnny was a member of Gatewood Brethren Church and Gatewood Church of God. He graduated from Fayetteville High School before serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars with the rank of staff sergeant when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of American Legion Post 149, Fayetteville; DAV; and he was a retired manager of the Best Western in Beckley. He enjoyed working at the Oak Hill Senior Center. Surviving: sisters, Sarah Ratliff of Fayetteville, Della Arrington and her husband, Bob, of Woodbridge, Va., Freda Abrams and her husband, Joe, of New Port Richey, Fla., and Karen Veltoven of Culpeper, Va; a brother, Thomas Wimmer and his wife, Vickie, of Carlisle; seven nephews; four nieces; two great-nephews; five great-nieces; and two great-great-nephews. Service was Dec. 18 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Morris Nutter, the Rev. William Skeldon and the Rev. Winston O'Neal officiating. Military rites were conducted at the funeral home by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110 before going to the cemetery. Burial followed in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Oak Hill. on December 22, 2005.3

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Richard and Robert of Woodbridge, VA, Rodney and wife Eileen of Locust Grove, VA; her siblings Sarah Ratliff of Fayetteville, WV., Freda Abrams of New Port Richey, Fla, Thomas of Scarbro, WV, and Karen Veltovan of Culpepper, VA; Two grandchildren, Shannon and husband Richard of Spotsylvania, Ricky and wife Cameron of Spotsylvania; Seven great grandchildren, Tylor, Dylan, Jacob, Will, Caleb, Carter and Hope; along with several nephews, nieces, relative and friends. Memorial Service will be provided at a later date. on July 15, 2015.6

Also surviving are two grandchildren, Shannon and Rickey and six great-grand-children. The family will receive friends on Monday December 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home Stafford Chapel, 186 Shelton Shop Rd. where a funeral service will be conducted with Rev. Glen Dryden officiating on Tuesday, December 28 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Stafford Memorial Park. on December 24, 2010.1

He was a retired miner and was a member of UMW.
