She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Harvey (Bill) Sowder; children, Mary Lee Sowder and William Harvey (Bubby) Sowder Jr., both of Rocky Mount; sister, Mary Green Williams of Ridgeway, Va; three nieces, Karen, Anne, and Beth. Edith was a member of Gogginsville United Methodist Church, where in her younger years, played piano and taught bible school. Edith is remembered by her honky tonk style piano playing at square dances and fiddlers conventions.
