     Frederick Rodolphus "Fred" Gobbel Frederick Rodolphus Gobbel, son of Dr. Frederick and Hanna Gobbel, was born in Orange County on September 25, 1857. He died May 17, 1942, at the age of 84 years, 7 months, and 22 days. Moving to Grantsburg, where he began the practice of medicine about 65 years ago, he married Jane Benham of that vicinity on July 6, 1878. To them were born three children, Dr. J. F. ("Wheeler") Gobbel, who died January 15, 1928; Mrs. Effie Rust, who died January 26, 1938, and Dr. Novy E. Gobbel, who survives. His wife died on May 28, 1933. Dr. Gobbel was a graduate of the Kentucky School of Medicine of Louisville. Moving from Grantsburg to English in 1896, he continued the practice of medicine until his retirement three years ago. He was president of the Crawford County Medical Society, a Southern Railway surgeon for 35 years, and president of the English State Bank at the time of his death. For many years he served as a member of the English School Board. During World War I, he was Selective Service medical examiner for the county. Dr. Gobbel was a member of the English Presbyterian Church and the Masonic, Odd Fellows, and Knights of Pythias lodges. He was a 32-degree Mason, a Shriner, and a Knight Templar. Surviving are his son, Dr. Novey E. Gobel of English; a brother, Orval Goebel, of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. Ed Wells, of Birdseye; two granddaughters, Mrs. Fleta Middlesworth of Gary and Mrs. Comal Reisen of Indianapolis; a great-grandson, Robert Lee Reisen; and two cousins, Drs. G. B. and F. G. Hammond of English.1 He was buried at English Cemetery, English, Crawford Co., Indiana.2 He was born on September 25, 1857 at Orange Co., Indiana.1,2,7 He married Eliza Jane Benham on July 6, 1878.1,4 Frederick Rodolphus "Fred" Gobbel died on May 17, 1942 at Jefferson Co., Kentucky, at age 84.1,2,3

Bob is survived by wife Gloria; son Michael and his wife Patty of Indianapolis, Ind; daughter Cindy Kulick and her husband Michael of Apple Valley. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 28 in the Regency Room at the Sterling Inn in Victorville. on April 28, 2009.3
