Huwe died Aug. 16, 2006, at the Odd Fellows Home. He was 85. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater. Mr. Huwe was born June 4, 1921, in Corona, Calif., to Robert and Bessie Chapman Huwe. He grew up in Meadow, S.. In 1937, his family moved to Huntsville, Wash. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army; he served in several campaigns, including Normandy. He received his honorable discharge in 1945. Mr. Huwe worked as a heavy equipment operator for Walla Walla County for many years. He retired in 1983. Mr. Huwe enjoyed Cadillacs, cooking, Christmas, his home and his neighborhood friends. He was a member of the American Legion in Waitsburg, Wash. He was preceded in death by sister Bonnie Nichols; brothers Lyle, Pete and Duane Huwe; a daughter-in-law; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by daughters Joan Cunnington of Walla Walla and Janis Manson of Spokane Valley, Wash; son Mike Huwe of Walla Walla; sister Kay Baker of Waitsburg, Wash; brothers Percy Huwe of Huntsville, Wash., Larry Huwe of Lakewood, Wash., and Burdette Huwe of Waitsburg, Wash; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. on August 24, 2006.³
