Zimmerman, 49, owner and operator of Liberty Coal Mining Co. three miles east of Attica, was killed late Friday morning by falling slate while working in the slope mine. It is estimated that the chunk of dislodged slate weighed 500 pounds. Coroner Clyde Williams said an inquest will be held. Besides his wife, Mr. Zimmerman is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jack McCoy of Des Moines and Mrs. Blaine Vriezlaar of Monroe; three sons, Ivan in the service and Keith and Howard, both of Knoxville, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gay Zimmerman of Peru, Ia., three sisters, three brothers and seven grandchildren. on August 2, 1957.4 He died on August 2, 1957 at Attica, Marion Co., Iowa, at age 49.3,4

     John Graff was buried at Chariton Cemetery, Chariton, Lucas Co., Iowa.1,2 He was born on July 29, 1905 at Buenos Aires, Argentina.2 He married Rose Ella Conrey, daughter of Howard Alvin Conrey and Jessie Argina Wall, in August, 1945.2 John Graff died on December 11, 1963 at Leon, Decatur Co., Iowa, at age 58.1,2 He John Graff, oldest son of Kasper and Kate Graff, was born July 29, 1905 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and passed away at the Decatur County hospital in Leon, Iowa, Dec. 11, 1963 at the age of 58 years, 4 months and 12 days. He came to America at the age of six years with his parents and lived and attended school in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. In June, 1925 he was married to Iola Evans of Osage, Iowa and to this union one son was born. His wife passed away December 15, 1942. In November, 1942 he was inducted into the Army and served his country during World War II, being discharged December, 1944. In August, 1945 he was married to Rose Ella Conroy of Des Moines. His last place of employment was at the County Home in Leon, where he and his wife served as steward and matron for 7 and one half years, having resigned in October because of failing health. Those left to survive him, besides his beloved wife, Rose, are his one son, John Carleton Graff, daughter-in-law, Frances, two grandchildren, Cynthia Ann and Jackie, of Baltimore, Md., and his mother, Mrs. Katharine Graff, of Osage, four brothers, Peter of Jesup, Marcus of Forrest City, Augustine of Waterloo, Kasper of Long Beach, Calif., four sisters, Rose Fellmer of Waterloo, Mary Kain, Pauline Bishell, Kay Burke, all of Long Beach, Calif., besides a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held Saturday, December 14, at 10 a.m., at the Miley Chapel with the Rev. Fr. C. J. Gaul officiating. Interment was in the Chariton cemetery. on December 19, 1963.3

Richard Charles Salsberry was born March 1, 1947, in Knoxville, the son of Eddie and Alda Bernice (Conrey) Salsberry. He was raised in Knoxville and attended school there. On July 22, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Davis in Princeton, Mo. The couple has always made Knoxville their home. Richard worked for D & D Pump in Pella for 22 years where he made many wonderful friends. Following his retirement he helped his wife, Jane run a day care for 10 years. He leaves behind many amazing children who lovingly called him, "Grandpa Rich". In his spare time, he loved fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Saturday night races with his best friend, Jimmy Thompson were another of Richard's great joys. His favorite place was the mountains of Montana, where he enjoyed time spent with his family. Richard was a loving and caring husband to Jane for 43 years and will be deeply missed. Richard passed away on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at the Carlisle Care Center at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 24 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Lavonne Shepherd, Alberta McMichaels and Oletha Salsberry (in infancy). Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jane; children: Randy Charles of Des Moines, Robert Allen of Knoxville and Rebecca Elaine of Knoxville; 4 grandchildren; brother, Tom Salsberry of Ankeny; sister, Judy Salsberry Sears of Clinton, Montana and many other family members and friends. on September 2, 2011.1
