He served in the U.S. Air Force before marrying his beloved wife, Patricia Anne, in 1961. They settled down together and were blessed with three children before calling the High Desert home in 1974. Fred worked for U.S. Borax in Boron as an electrical engineer for nearly 20 years. He retired as an electrical contractor while living in Hesperia in 1995. Fred is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 47 years; his children Sherri and Johnny Brown of Lucerne Valley, Debbie and Earl Kunath of Phelan, and Fred Bryan McKern of Lucerne Valley; 10 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his siblings, George and Karen McKern, Clifford and Judy McKern, Joyce and Bill Dunn and their families. He was preceded by his parents, Fred and Beaulah Lee McKern. Fred will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Victor Valley Memorial Park. The viewing is to be held at 1 p.m., followed by a graveside ceremony at 3 p.m. on May 21, 2009.3

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 21, at the Fulton Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton. Mrs. McKern was born and reared west of Atlanta, the daughter of R. L. (Dick) and Mollie Emdee Sparrow. She was a niece of the late James D. and Manlius Sparrow, both of Macon. Since her marriage she had resided in Fulton, until the past two years, where her husband was an instructor in tailoring in the School for the Deaf. The past two years they had lived in Kansas City where he was in charge of a tailoring firm. Mrs. McKern is survived by her husband; one son, Cyde Jr., of Fulton; two daughters, Mrs. Hatfield and Mrs. Hoyt Wilson of San Francisco, Calif. She is also survived by six grandchildren. on August 19, 1948.3
