In 1936, She graduated from the Unionville Community Schools in Unionville, Missouri. On July 17, 1938, Venetta was united in marriage to Rev. Clark F. McKern in Unionville, Missouri. Rev. McKern founded the Dale Church north of Centerville, Iowa where Venetta was very active. She was the Sunday school Superintendent and Church Treasurer for many, years. She also headed up the Vacation Bible School and sang in the Church Choir. She worked at Milady's Dress Shoppe in Centerville for several years and for a short time at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville. Venetta was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Clark McKern on January 23, 1987; son, Larry McKern; brothers, Lorraine, Carl, Wilbur and Forrest Mullenix; half-brother, Harper Mullenix; sisters, Nellie Abbott, Sylvia Dye and Vivian Crewse. Venetta is survived by: her daughters, Marsha and her husband, Nick Lemmo of West Des Moines, Iowa and Sharon Lau of LaValencia, California; grandchildren, Lindsay Lemmo, Nick Lemmo, Johnny Lau and Chris Lau; Phil Tisue, (who Venetta & Clark cared for and guided) and very close friend Zeph Earhart. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. John Adams officiating, burial to follow at the Dale Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 8, 2004 from 2-8pm with the family present from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Kavanagh House on Grand Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa. on November 8, 2004.1

She was born on June 15, 1928 in Charlotte to the late Paul and Mary Tidy Irwin Ritchie. She attended Central High School before working for Carolinas Healthcare System for 29 years. Betty actively attended Dilworth Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. In June of 1950 she married the love of her life, C.P. (Mack) McKern to whom she was happily married until his death in 2002. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, P.L. Ritchie and three sisters, Sarah Miller, Nancy Mann and Effie Gray. Betty is survived by her son, Carl McKern and his wife, Judy of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Alysia McKern, of Mt. Holly, NC; step grandchildren, Chris Holbrooks and his wife, Chandra, Scott Smith and his wife, Julie, and Matthew Watson and his wife, Holly, all of Denver, NC; six great grandchildren; brother, Bill Ritchie and his wife, Jean; and nine nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. McKern will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Wednesday. In memory of her late husband, Mack, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215 on March 26, 2013.3 She died on May 25, 2013 at Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, at age 85.1,3,4

Funeral services and burial will be held at Delhi. Mr. Burns was born September 17, 1879, in the Main Station vicinity and had spent most of his life in this vicinity, having lived in the same home in Moravia more than 30 years. He sold his home last September and October 15, with his wife, went to California to make their home with the son. Mr. Burns suffered a heart attack a month ago and had been in poor health since, but was improving. Surviving are his wife, the former Bessie McKern, and three children, Virgil of Delhi, Mrs. Burton Tarr of Kinston, N. Y. and Mrs. Burdette Ward of Moravia.
