Selwyn Myron "Sive" Ronning was buried at Hills of Rest Memorial Park, 300 N. Chapel Road, Sioux Falls, Minnehaha Co., South Dakota.2 He Selwyn M. "Sive" Ronning, 87, formerly of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2013 at his home in Lester Prairie, MN, with his loving wife, Shirley and step-daughter, Julie at his bedside. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church, Waconia, MN, with Pastor Paul Christopher officiating. A light meal will follow. A second memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 12 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, SD. Selwyn Myron Ronning, son of Olai and Ida (Moen) Ronning, was born on December 21, 1925 in Brookings County, SD. As a child he moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD. Sive graduated from Washington High School in 1944. Within 10 days after graduation, Sive entered the U.S. Navy on June 7, 1944 at Omaha, NE. He served as a gunner in the South Pacific on LST 268 and later LST 7200 during World War II. He was honorably discharged on May 15, 1946 at St. Louis, MO. After the war, Sive attended Radio and TV school in Kansas City, MO. He worked as Chief Radio Engineer in Pierre, SD and then for TV station KDLO in Garden City, SD. Sive then returned to Sioux Falls and joined Ronning Co. in 1958. He retired in 1990. Being an avid golf player since 1946, one of Sive’s main objectives after retirement was to play as much golf as physically possible. There were many times he would play two-18 hole rounds of golf in a day. Due to physical limitations, his last game of golf was in 2002. Sive was a member of the Masons since 1951, the American Legion, and was an active member of the Sioux Valley Wellness Center, which he enjoyed almost as much as his golf. Sive and his wife, Shirley, would have been together 25 years this coming November. Sive and Shirley were able to travel all over the US and into Europe, seeing all the places they had dreamed about. Grateful for having shared Sive’s life are his wife, Shirley; his sister, Lavonne Filipek and her husband, Robert; five step-children, Julie Gjerstad and her husband, Clancy, Sidney Larson and his wife, Mary, Philip Larson and his fiancée, Nicole, Stephen Larson and his wife, Lisa, Sarah Dennee and her husband, Richard; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Sive was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, D. Wayne Ronning and Adrian Ronning.2 He was born on December 21, 1925 at Brookings Co., South Dakota.2 He married Charlotte J. Brookbank, daughter of Donald M. Brookbank and Vera Gladys Campbell, on June 12, 1971 at Minnehaha Co., South Dakota.1,3 Selwyn Myron "Sive" Ronning and Charlotte J.
