     Rose Mary Beard Mary Ida Mills Beard, 97, and her daughter, Rose Mary Beard Cochran, 78, both of Roanoke, went Home on Sunday, November 20, 2016. Mary was the last of ten children of William and Flora Manning Mills. She was married to Robert Lewis Beard for 70 years. Mary was a member of Grace and Truth Baptist Church and served as church organist for over 25 years. Rose was a former realtor and past president of the Roanoke Valley Board of Realtors and retired from the United Way of Roanoke as the Vice President of Allocations. In addition to Robert, they were preceded in death by Mary’s daughter, Jeanette Beard and Rose’s infant daughter, Carol Lou Cochran. Mary’s survivors include her son (Rose’s brother), Robert L. Beard, Jr; Rose’s children, Gary Cochran and wife, Barbara, Vickie Campbell and husband, Tod; and grandchildren, Nicole Campbell, Kristin Dunford (Cody) and Faith Rock.⁵ She was born on August 20, 1938 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.^2,7 As of July 13, 1956,her married name was Cochran.² She married Louis Franklin "Buddy" Cochran on July 13, 1956 at Lynchburg, Virginia.² Rose Mary Beard and Louis Franklin "Buddy" Cochran were divorced on May 27, 1981 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁸ Rose Mary Beard died on November 20, 2016 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 78.⁵

     Louis Franklin "Buddy" Cochran was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁴ He was born on June 17, 1935 at Axton, Henry Co., Virginia.^1,2,3,4 He married Rose Mary Beard, daughter of Robert Lewis Beard and Mary Ida Mills, on July 13, 1956 at Lynchburg, Virginia.¹ Louis Franklin "Buddy" Cochran and Rose Mary Beard were divorced on May 27, 1981 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.³ Louis Franklin "Buddy" Cochran died on November 2, 2016 at Virginia at age 81.⁴ He Louis (Buddy) Cochran, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was born on June 17, 1935, was a graduate of William Fleming High School, retired from the Norfolk-Southern Railroad, was a member of First Christian Church of Roanoke, and loved history, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Cochran; his daughter, Carol Lou Cochran; and his wife, Donnis "Dee" Cochran. He is survived by his children, Gary and Barbara Cochran, Vickie and Tod Campbell; grandchildren, Nicole, Kristin and Faith; also many good friends. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on November 6, 2016.⁴

She was a member of Grace and Truth Baptist Church and retired from Sears and previously worked at Goodwill Industries of the Valleys. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lewis Beard. Surviving are her mother, Mary I. Beard; brother, Bob Beard; sister, Rose Mary Cochran; a niece, Vickie Campbell and husband, Todd; a nephew, Gary Cochran and wife, Barbara; and two great-nieces, Kristin and Nicole Campbell. The family wishes to express special thanks to Springtree Health and Rehab and to Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their good care of Jeanette. A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted in Mountain View Cemetery. on October 20, 2010.⁶

Robert (Bobby) Lewis Beard, Jr., 81, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025. Bobby was the son of the late Robert Lewis, Sr., and Mary Ida Beard. He was also predeceased by his sisters Rose Mary Cochran and Evelyn Jeannette Beard. Bobby served in the Marine Corps during the early 1960s. Afterwards, he was employed by the General Electric Company in Salem, VA, for many years. After leaving GE, Bobby opened Bob Beard Antiques in downtown Roanoke. He is survived by his nephew Gary Lynn Cochran (Barbara); niece Vickie Campbell (Tod); and cousin Judy Kniskern. A funeral service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton, VA.² He was born on April 20, 1944 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,3 He died on May 23, 2025 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 81.²

     Carol Lou Cochran was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^4,5 She was born on October 31, 1961 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,4 She died on July 4, 1962 at Roanoke, Virginia.^4,5 She Carol Lou Cochran, infant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cochran, 5339 Endicott St., NE, died Wednesday in a local hospital. In addition to her parents, she is survived by brother, Garry Lyn Cochran, Roanoke; a sister, Vickie Lee Cochran, Roanoke; her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Cochran, Roanoke County; Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Beard, Vinton. Burial will be in Sherwood. Pallbearers will be Scott Haskins, Jack Edwards, Larry Pack and Warren Brown. on July 5, 1962.⁵

She was born July 23, 1924, at Lochgelly, a daughter of the late Harry and Letha Burford Pannell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Pannell and Robert Pannell, and sisters, Margaret Harris and Ruth Witte. She was a graduate of Kingston High School and a veteran of World War II, having served with the 53rd Women's Army Corps Hospital Company stationed at The Greenbrier, as a finance clerk, where she was awareded the American Service Medal, the World War II Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. She was a homemaker and a member of Millsite Baptist Church, Cottageville. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Richard "Billy" Vandall; sons, Joe R. Vandall Jr. of Charleston, Jeffrey W. (Laura) Vandall of Cha St. Jucarleston; daughters, Linda (Jim) Dodson of Ravenswood, Rebecca (Garry) McComas of Charleston, Judy (Rick) Hickman of Chalreston, Deborah (Dan) Squires of Fairmont; brothers, Charles Pannell of Ravenswood, Lawrence Pannell of Montpelier, Ohio, Harry Pannell Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Johnny Pannell of Ohio, Rick Pannell of Oak Hill; sister, Frances Parrish of Mountain Top, Pa; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 17, at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Pastor Doug Weaver officiating.
