The late Mr. Green, who had been ill the last three years, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Blue Mountain hospital in John Day, where he had been a patient five weeks. Death was due to heart and lung ailments. Service was held at 2 p.m. at the chapel of the Driskill mortuary. Officiating was the Rev. Richard Goold of Long Creek. Mrs. Richard Goold, Long Creek, served as organist. John Liveira of John Day sang "How Great Thou Art" as a vocal solo. Mrs. Kathleen Rehder and Mrs. Edith Damon, Mt. Vernon, sang a duet, "Whispering Hope." John Fossum of John Day read a tribute written by the late Mr. Green's daughter, Mrs. D. L. (Clea) Rasmussen. Interment was made in the Canyon City cemetery. Active pallbearers were Charles McKenna, Clyde Stormer, Isaac Shank, Arnold Lemons and Carl Edwards, Mt. Vernon, and George Gilbert of John Day. Honorary pallbearers were Arthur Culp, Miles Gilman, Rex Brisbois, Peter Holmberg, Robert Hiatt, Marvin Brannon and Byron Lemons of Mt. Vernon. Otis H. Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette Green, was born June 12, 1895, at Long Creek. He attended the Long Creek and Mt. Vernon schools. His marriage to Valene Irene McKern was solemnized June 12, 1918, at Mt. Vernon. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Green established their home at Mt. Vernon, where they continued to reside. The late Mr. Green was engaged in the trucking business several years and he served as the Grant county weed supervisor a number of years. He was a member of the Mt. Chapel church in Mt. Vernon. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Valene Green, Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Mrs. D. L. (Clea) Rasmussen, Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Pat Leach and Penny, Rickey and Randy Rasmussen, Mt. Vernon; a brother, Joe Green, Mt. Vernon; and a sister, Mrs. R. W. (Alice) Shaw, Long Creek. His parents and several brothers and sisters preceded him in death. on February 16, 1961.²

A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Feb. 18, at First Christian Church with Pastor Duane Cheadle officiating. Interment was at Canyon City Cemetery. She was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Mt. Vernon, to Irwin Lee and Selma Anna (McKern) DeVine. She graduated high school in Mt. Vernon. She was married twice, first to Bob Ross, and then to Harriman McKinney, who died in 1975. She worked as a lumber resource clerk for Malheur National Forest, retiring in 1992. She also worked for the power company, as a waitress at the Wagon Wheel Cafe and picked fruit for Thomas Orchards. She loved hunting, fishing, creating wedding cakes, gardening, picking buttercups, mushrooms and huckleberries, and taking autumn rides. She raised lambs, rabbits, chickens and steers on her beloved home just west of Mt. Vernon. She also ran a boarding house where she raised several children. She loved to bowl and was a tournament champion of her league. She also enjoyed watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy." She liked to play bingo and looked forward to the senior bus trips to Winnemucca and the long-awaited trip to Las Vegas, Nev. She also loved her cat Teaks. She was a member of the Mt. Chapel Church and a proud state level Grange member, representing the Mt. Vernon Grange #659. She held many offices in the grange and was a lifetime member. She was honored with the "Homemaker of the Year" award by the Grant County Fair in 2002. She believed in keeping small school values and was a crusader for disability awareness. She was a breast cancer survivor who was strong beyond belief. She raised a handicapped child in a public school and watched her graduate with honors. Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Dee; her two sons, Shane Lee and Mackie Dee; her husbands, Bob Ross and Harriman "Mac" McKinney; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Kay Cloud, Texas, and Stacey Ann McKinney, Prairie City; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gilda Hope McKinney Memorial Fund through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845. on February 20, 2008.¹

She also did work as a computer trainer and graphics designer. She enjoyed art: oils, pastels and charcoal work. She also enjoyed ceramics, games, fishing, sports, books, movies and music. She received the Point of Light Award for her humanitarian efforts in regards to the Forest Service, and the Heart Award for the Civil Rights and Disabilities for Malheur National Forest. Survivors include her companion Red Dickerson of Prairie City. Contributions to the Stacey McKinney Memorial Fund may be made through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S.
