Mrs. Foster was born May 20, 1909, in Wilkes County to the late William Cicero and Susan Jane Triplett. She was a longtime member of Wilkesboro Baptist Church. Mrs. Foster was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to her family and their lives. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Foster, her parents, and all of her siblings, including four sisters, Belva T. Bumgarner, Veoria T. Walsh, Zera T. Greene, and Hazel Laverne Triplett; five brothers, Cartas Triplett, Arlon Triplett, Alta Triplett, Lennis Triplett, and Raeford Triplett. Surviving are a daughter, Kaye Foster Mann and husband, Charles of Oak Island, NC and a son, John Thomas Foster and wife, Sandra of Hickory, NC. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Chip Mann and wife, Tracy of Stella, Shane Foster of Brevard, John Mann and wife, Suzanne of Winston Salem, Patrick Foster and wife, Robin of Austin, TX, Bradley Mann and wife, Lori of Mebane and the only granddaughter, Kelly Valdespino and husband, Bill of Raleigh. Mrs. Foster has ten great-grandchildren, Sarah and Kristen Mann, Hannah and Tucker Foster, Ashton and Alexis Mann, Kate Foster, Nic and Vada Valdespino, and Tyler Mann. Also surviving are two sisters in law, Mrs. Edith Triplett, and Mrs. Frances Hendren. Dr. Thurston was born May 8, 1921, in Taylorsville, he was the son of the late Jenna Eckerd Thurston and Dr. Asa Thurston. He received his BS degree in Business Administration from Davidson College in 1942, and a DDS degree from Emory University in 1950. Dr. Thurston served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and received his pilot training at Craig Field, Ala. He flew C47 planes in the Far East Air Service Command and was discharged with the rank of Major in 1946. Dr. Thurston practiced dentistry in Salisbury from 1950, until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder of the church. Dr. Thurston was active in the Central NC Council of Boy Scouts of America and served on its executive board. He received the distinguished Silver Beaver Award in 1968, and received the James E. West Fellowship Award, the highest honor a Boy Scout volunteer can receive. Dr. Thurston also served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board for eight years and the Rowan County Board of Health from 1975-1981. He was a Past President of the Salisbury Rotary Club and had been a member since 1950. Dr. Thurston received the first Senior Citizen of the Year Award from the Salisbury Rotary Club and received a Paul Harris Fellowship Award. After his retirement he worked with the Rotary International 3 H dentistry program in Hong Kong. He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Foster Thurston, who died Oct. 3, 1981. Survivors include his wife Linda McConnell Thurston, whom he married in 1982; two daughters Lee Shugrue and her husband Tom of Chapel Hill and Jenna Nash and her husband Ben of Concord; a son Asa Stevenson Thurston of Salisbury; step daughters Carrie Taylor and her husband Eric of Cary and Disa Herring and her husband Billy of Vilas; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and two sisters Lucy Lowe of Greensboro and Geit Johnson of Statesville. Service: A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Jim C. Dunkin and Dr. Randal V. Kirby officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Park at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Rowan County Military Honor Guard. on July 3, 2006.2

Roy was married to the former Parkie Camp Foster of Newnan and lovingly reared four children. He later married Gail McDonald Foster. Roy is survived by his children: Roy G. Foster III (DeeDee) of Cumming, GA; Terri Foster Shiver (Tate) of Savannah, GA; W. Hayes Foster (Susan) of Winston-Salem, NC; Parkie Foster Sloat (Dave) of San Diego, CA; his sister, Elizabeth Foster Fulghum of Midville, GA; his former wife, Parkie C. Foster of Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail, and his sister, Virginia Foster Thurston. Funeral services for Mr. Foster were held October 23 at the Wadley First United Methodist Church with Reverend Christopher Shoemaker officiating. Interment followed in the Wadley City Cemetery. Pallbearers were R. Zachry Foster, Tyler R. Sexton, George H. Fulghum, Jr., Daniel S. Jensen, Fred G. Mason III, and Col. C.S. McMillan. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Saturday Morning Men's Bible Study Group, "Iron Men". on October 23, 2014.2
