As a World War II veteran, he participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy Beach, Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Rhineland and the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp. He was honored as a member of the 941st Artillery Battalion and reportedly was one of only 23 soldiers of that group listed on the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Upon discharge, Raymond relocated to the Olive Branch section of Portsmouth. He served as president of the Olive Branch Pony League for several years during which they captured the 1963 state championship. He excelled professionally as Parts and Service manager for several Portsmouth area auto dealerships. While at McCready Motors, he served as president of Ford Motor Companies Eastern division. His achievements were recognized by both Ford and Chrysler as top Parts Manager Nationals in 1979, Raymond was also a published author while in his 70s. He penned "Battlefield of Life" for his grandchildren as they enjoyed hearing his tales of his service to our country. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Crawford Yeatts, in 1992 and a great-granddaughter, Makayla. He is survived by his sister, Gladys McGee; six children, Garland Yeatts, Roger Totten and wife Jeanette, Charlie Yeatts and Terri Staples, Raynelle Ricks and husband David, Beth Harris and husband Cecil, Harry Lee Yeatts; 12 grandchildren, Garland Yeatts Jr., Adam Yeatts, Troy Yeatts, Clay and wife Cindy, Clinton Yeatts, Danny Totten, Michael Totten and wife Kim, Jason Oldfield and his fiancée Dana Modlin, David Ian Ricks, Kody Ricks, Stephanie Costa and Joey Costa; seven great-grandchildren including a special great-grandson, Michael Raymond Yeatts, born July 31, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Pinecrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Potter with burial in Horton Veteran Cemetery. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, is handling the arrangements. on September 18, 2008.1

She was a member of Westover Hills United Methodist Church and had worked as an office manger at Pet Dairy and later operated the Lil Ol' Snack Shop in downtown Danville. Mr. McGee was a lifelong member of Pelham United Methodist Church where he served on several different committees. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Duke basketball and stock car racing. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Betty McGee Paige.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Marie Stroud McGee, of the residence. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy M. Ford and husband, Simeon Jr., of Forest, Va; one son, John H. "Mac" McGee Jr. and wife, June, also of Forest, Va; two sisters, Mary M. Herndon of Pine Mountain, Ga., and Alma M. Cross of Reidsville, N.C; four grandchildren, Simeon S. Ford, III and wife, Deidra of Nashville, Tenn., Christen F. Walczak and husband, Michael of Chicago, Ill., Allison A. McGee of Manning, S.C., and Brett H. McGee of Washington, D.C; and four great-grandchildren, Simeon Ford IV, Piper Ford, Elise Walczak, and Ford Walczak. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 19, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel in Danville with the Rev. Lee Eggers officiating. Interment will follow the service at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Friday, prior to the service, from 12 until 1:30 p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Centra Hospice Lynchburg, 3300 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24503, Pelham United Methodist Church, 594 Red Marshall Rd., Pelham, NC 27311 or Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 9983 NC Hwy 700, Ruffin, NC 27311. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the McGee family. on February 17, 2016.2
