Eugene Harold Laubacher was buried at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H Street, Oxnard, Ventura Co., California.3,4 He was born on July 3, 1933 at Canton, Stark Co., Ohio.2,3,4 He married Jacqueline Anne Ryan, daughter of Jack Woodrow Ryan and Mary Elizabeth Phillips, on November 19, 1955 at Ventura Co., California.1,4 Eugene Harold Laubacher died on October 23, 2005 at San Luis Obispo Co., California, at age 72.2,3,4 He Eugene Harold Laubacher, 72, of Shell Beach, Calif., went home to meet his Creator on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Pismo Beach, followed by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard. Gene was born July 3, 1933, in Canton, Ohio. His family moved to Oxnard, Calif., in 1946. He attended Santa Clara Church, the very church his great-uncle, Father John Laubacher, had built and pastored in the early 20th century. Gene also attended Santa Clara elementary and high schools. While at Santa Clara High, he became an All Star athlete, playing superbly in baseball, basketball and football. In 1950, while on the Santa Clara baseball team, Gene and his teammates won the Ventura County championship. From 1952 through 1954, Gene served in the military in the Korean War. He was very proud to be an American and honored to serve his country. Gene married in 1955 to Jacqueline Anne Ryan, daughter of former Oxnard Chief of Police Jack Ryan. From that marriage came six children. Jackie died April 28, 1991. Gene worked for more than 35 years as a systems analyst in Ventura County. He retired in 1990. Wanting to help people, he took on part-time jobs, assisting the elderly. Through close family and friends, Gene met Alice Killgore. And for the past 14 years, they had been living life to the fullest, traveling the world and enjoying family and friends. Upon marrying Alice, he not only gained a wife but also two stepchildren. One of Gene's greatest delights was serving as treasurer of the Knights of Columbus at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was able to continue helping people. Gene leaves his wife, Alice; his six children, David Laubacher of Ventura, Daniel Laubacher of Vienna, Donna Morley of Frazier Park, Diane Montalvo of Orange County, Larry Laubacher of Burbank and Kevin Laubacher of Camarillo; and stepson Danny Guzman of Atascadero and stepdaughter DeAnn MacConell of Paso Robles. He also leaves several grandchildren, Johnathan, Michelle, Benjamin, Ann Sophie, Lauren, Austin Dean, Brynne and Christian. When asked the question, "What impressed you most about Gene?" friends and family most often respond by saying, "He never said a bad word about anybody and his humor was contagious." Gene will be dearly missed. There's no one like him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Conventual Franciscans, Education Fund, P.O. Box 820, Arroyo Grande, CA 93421-0820, or the American Cancer Society, 1428 Phillips Lane, Suite 201, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. Arrangements are under the direction of Lady Family Mortuary and Crematory of Arroyo Grande. on October 26, 2005.4
