David, a true Renaissance man, enjoyed painting, cooking, woodworking, gardening, traveling, reading and enjoying time spent with his family. A visitation will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond, Va. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Garrett also was the past owner and operator of the Person County Drag Strip. In 2007, he was inducted to the Roxboro Drag Strip Hall of Fame and, in 2002, East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame. He was a member of Surl Primitive Baptist Church and the Hardee's Breakfast Club. Mr. Garrett is survived by his sons, Keith Garrett and wife, Betty Jo, of Timberlake and Gary Garrett and wife, Melanie, of Roxboro; three grandchildren, Bryan Garrett and wife, Carol, Heather Bowling and husband, Frankie, and Whitney Garrett; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Garrett, Landon Bowling, Blaize Bowling, and Colton Bowling.
