Samuel Ray Hinkley, 68 of Montgomery County, passed away February 4, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonah Lee Hinkley and Frances Sue Hinkley; as well as by Roger Lee Hinkley, Thomas Bentley Hinkley, Frank Jackson Hinkley, Vernus Allen Hinkley, Barbara Fay Jennings, Betty Lou Harris, Judy Lynn Bond, and Katie Laura Musselman. Sam is survived by his siblings, Nancy Sue Custer, Rebecca Ann Lovern, Richard Wayne Hinkley, Gary Daniel Hinkley; daughters, Sandra Hinkley (Amy Meade), April Lovern (Joe Kincaid); step-son, Josh Kast; grandchildren, Teresa Bryant, Gavin DeJesus-Hinkley, Tara Dawn Hinkley; and great-grandchildren, Blaine Keaton Price, Daniel Kolson Price, and Maelyn Brooke Davis. Sam was a dedicated farm hand for many years. He loved being outside and fishing. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. A native of Kimballton, Va., he moved to Tampa in 1958 from Pearisburg, Va. He was a diesel mechanic and served in the U.S. Army. Don will be greatly missed by his loving family, who are grateful to God for the gift of time shared and the memories this allows. He is survived by his wife, Janice Sabat, Pearisburg; one daughter, Christie Sabat, Pearisburg; two brothers, Jan Sabat of Pennsylvania, Greg Sabat of Radford; two sisters, Janice Lee, Virginia Beach, Donna Marshall, Radford. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating. Interment in Birchlawn Burial Park, with military services by American Legion Post #68 of Narrows, American Post #311 of Pembroke and V.F.W. Post #6000 of Narrows. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. on September 25, 1995.¹
