Ricky was a devoted NASCAR fan who also loved hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful and kindhearted person that will be sadly missed by all that knew him. on August 12, 2008.²

     Melissa Ann Rakes Melissa Rakes Craighead, 53 of Shawsville, passed away April 28, 2024. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mason and Regent Rakes; father, Morris Rakes; and brother, Ricky Rakes. Missy is survived by her mother, Alice Rakes; husband, Paul Craighead; son, Zachary Craighead; sister, Donna Akers (Todd); aunt, Linda Hollandsworth; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Missy worked for Montgomery County for 26 years as a preschool teacher. All of her children knew her as Miss Melissa. Even after they were in high school they remembered her as Miss Melissa. She was a wonderful loving wife and mother and a faithful church member. She was there to help and aid anyone who needed it. She always worried about family and tried to be there as much as possible. When God called her Home He took an angel to where she belongs. Interment will follow in Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville.⁵ She was buried at Piedmont Cemetery, Rt. 11 to Shawsville, turn at nursing home, Rt. 637, about 8 miles on the left, Montgomery Co., Virginia.⁵ She was born on December 3, 1970 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.³ As of December 31, 1998,her married name was Craighead.⁴ She married Paul Eldridge Craighead on December 31, 1998 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^1,2,4,5 Melissa Ann Rakes died on April 28, 2024 at Virginia at age 53.⁵
