He was born in Bedford County on October 13, 1935, a son of Edna Johnson Powers, Bedford; and the late Auville Thomas Powers. He was a member of the Bedford Christian Church and was a co-owner of Buddy's Family Restaurant. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Connie H. Powers; two daughters, Tina Marie Powers, Bedford; Dana P. Manias, Virginia Beach; one brother, Thoams Henry Powers, Unionville; one granddaughter. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, October 23, 1991, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bedford Christian Church with the Rev. Ken Burger officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bedford Christian Church Building Fund. on October 22, 1991.⁴

     Peter Manias was born on May 10, 1958 at Manhattan, New York Co., New York.^1,2 He married Dana Lynn Powers, daughter of Lynwood Earl Powers and Connie Ruth Hoskins, on March 23, 1985 at Bedford Co., Virginia.^1,2 Peter Manias died on August 25, 2012 at Lynchburg, Virginia, at age 54.^2,3 He Peter Manias, 54, of Bedford, died Saturday, August 25, 2012. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y. on May 10 1958 a son of the late Ulysses Manias and Chrysoula Lorandos Manias. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lynwood Powers. Peter retired in 1997 from the United States Navy with 20 years of service. He was employed by Advanced Logic Industries and an active member of Bedford Christian Church where he served as Elder, Youth Leader and Sunday School teacher. He loved coaching little league softball and basketball. Peter is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dana Powers Manias; two daughters, Shauna Saunders and husband, Stuart and Heather Manias of Bedford; his brothers, Angelos and Andrew Manias of New York; mother-in-law, Connie H. Powers; sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Dave O'Hara all of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to the Bedford Christian Church Scholarship Fund or Craigs Spring Camp (same address for both, 1928 Moneta Rd. Bedford, Va. 24523). The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Bedford Christian Church.      Yvette Marie Lucianne Werkshagen was born on January 28, 1928 at Nancy, France.¹ As of circa 1954,her married name was Cannaday.¹ She married Charles Johnston "Chuck" Cannaday, son of Alvin Graham Cannaday and Edith G. Johnson/Johnston, circa 1954.¹ Yvette Marie Lucianne Werkshagen died on July 3, 2016 at Blue Ridge, Botetourt Co., Virginia, at age 88.¹ She Yvette Marie Lucianne Werkshagen Cannaday passed away of natural causes in Blue Ridge, Va., on Sunday,July 3, 2016. Born in Nancy, France on January 21, 1928. Devoted wife of Charles J. Cannaday for 62 years. Loving mother of Charles, Robert, Virginia Brown and Alan Cannaday.Yvette worked for the United States Military in France, as a translator and telephone operator shortly after the war, where she met her husband Charles J. Cannaday. As a military wife her travels took her from Virginia to California and Utah to Mississippi. And through all those years of travel and relocating, she never met a stranger. Her biggest smile was when she was able to make someone laugh at one of her corny jokes.Whether she was tossing a baseball to her kids or enjoying her favorite activity of bowling, Yvette, was always there for her family and friends. Chaperoning for dances at the local high school or cracking them up on the local bowling leagues. As a volunteer, there was nothing she would not tackle.Yvette passed down to her children her laughter, and kind ways, her smile and caring soul. She will be missed by all that ever came in contact with her. Her heart was big until the very end.Yvette is survived by her husband Charles J. Cannaday; her children, Charles A, Robert A, Virginia Brown, and Alan Cannaday. on July 7, 2016.¹
