Albert Frank McComber1,2
M, b. September 29, 1921, d. December 28, 2010
Albert Frank McComber Albert Frank McComber, 89, went home to heaven at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28th, 2010. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lela Mildred Jernigan McComber and his devoted children: son, Doyce Glenn McComber, 61, and daughter, Cheryl Denise McComber Williams, 56. Albert was born on September 29, 1921 in Deese, Oklahoma to George William McComber and Myrtle Ingram McComber. He grew up on a farm outside of Ardmore, Oklahoma with four brothers and one sister. After graduating from Plainview HS, he joined the US Army Air Corps and was called to service in WWII. He began a tour around the world, beginning in Los Angeles and serving in N. Africa, New Zealand, Australia, India, Italy, and ending with service in New England. During his 3 1/2 years away, he endured both cold winters in foxholes where his feet were frozen and scorching desert heat infested with sand fleas. He spent months at sea without knowing their final destination orders, eventually running out of food and having to catch fish just to sustain their life. Seafood did not top the list of his food choices after that. Upon his return from overseas, he came home to Ardmore, where he met the love of his life at a singing convention. They courted and were married on September 7th, 1946. Albert began working and attending night school and graduated from junior college with his associates degree. Albert worked as a furniture salesman at Nelson's Furniture Company in Muskogee for 43 1/2 years. Retiring in 1991, he worked until he was 70 years of age. Gardening was always a passion for Albert, and he grew all kinds of fruits and vegetables in his own backyard garden. He was also a long time member of the fraternity, UCT. Always smiling, Albert displayed his love for the Lord and his love for people. He was a man with great work ethic, integrity and love for mankind, always making a person feel like they were the most important person in the world. His love of God was evident in every aspect of his life. He served in various areas of ministry, such as leading music, choir director, Sunday school superintendent, and youth director. He was a true example of a godly man and exemplified how to honor and cherish his wife. The lifestyle he led on earth is now coming to fruition in heaven. Jesus will now have the privilege to sit down by this wonderful man. And, there's probably already a small group in heaven gathered around him listening to him tell stories. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Hester Fain, Lester William, and Preston B. He leaves behind his brother, George Mike McComber and his sister, Eveline McComber Seedig. His legacy will go on with his grandchildren: Adam McComber, Amy McComber Norton, Matthew McComber, Becky Williams Barnes, Bobby Williams, and Angie Williams, three great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters.2 He was born on September 29, 1921 at Deese, Oklahoma.3,2 He married Lela Mildred Jernigan, daughter of Marvin Lee Jernigan and Naoma Tennessee Barber, on September 7, 1946.1,2 Albert Frank McComber died on December 28, 2010 at Tulsa, Tulsa Co., Oklahoma, at age 89.1,3,2
