She was self-employed for many years at Martin’s Sales Agency and also retired from Sears. She was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church and attended Beckham United Methodist Church. She was a member of Fontaine Ruritan Club with 20 years of continuous community service. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ray Alan Martin, Sr. of the home; one daughter, Roxanne Martin of Martinsville; two sons, Ray Alan Martin, Jr. and wife Debbie of Collinsville and Harold S. Martin of Martinsville; one sister, Virginia Sands of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Brian Martin, Elizabeth Witt and Heather L. Martin; three great-grandchildren, Amber Martin, Romeo Alex Martin and Ivy L. Witt. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Ann Sisson officiating. Memorials may be made to Beckham United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville. on August 11, 2014.¹

     Ray Alan Martin Sr. was buried at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia.² He was born on November 1, 1934.^3,2 He married Ruby May Guthrie, daughter of Lawrence Strickler Guthrie and Pearl Lou Barbour, circa 1954.^1,2 Ray Alan Martin Sr. died on October 12, 2014 at Axton, Henry Co., Virginia, at age 79.^3,2 He Ray Alan Martin Sr., 79, of Axton, died on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at his home. Mr. Martin was born on November 1, 1934, to the late Harold Martin and Elsie Minter Martin. He was married to Ruby Guthrie Martin for 60 years, who preceded him in death earlier this year. Mr. Martin attended Beckham United Methodist Church. He was the owner and operator of Martin’s Sales Agency for over 40 years. Mr. Martin was a member of the Fontaine Ruritan Club for 53 years and served in the past as district Governor and Lt. Governor of the Dan River district.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul B. Martin. Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Martin of Martinsville; two sons, Ray Alan Martin Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Collinsville and Harold S. Martin of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Brian Martin, Elizabeth Witt and Heather L. Martin; and three great-grandchildren, Amber Martin, Romeo Alex Martin and Ivy Witt. The family will receive friends at the home, 217 Country Place Road in Axton, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Roselawn Burial Park with the Reverend Ann Sisson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beckham United Methodist Church, 45 Beckham Church Road, Axton, Va. 24054.
