Survivors are her husband, Howard Hall; brothers, Alvis of Bear, Del., Howard (Erma) Bradley and Nathan (Jenna Lee) Brown of Beckley; sisters, Norma Jean Bragg (Clarence) of Daniels and Edna Mae Smith of Roanoke, Va; and many nephews and nieces who live in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Florida. In keeping with her request, the body has been cremated and graveside of ashes will be Oct. 13 in Fairmont next to her only son, Larry Dean Brown. Arrangements by Foard-Jones Funeral Directors, Newark. on August 31, 2007.3

In his later years, He was a consultant for Westmoreland Coal Company at Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He was a song leader and longtime member of the Church of Christ on Carriage Drive in Beckley. Mr. Brown enjoyed golfing, working cross word puzzles, and enjoyed singing at his church. He was a former member of the Calvary Trio Gospel group years ago. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Leef, Lillian Hall, and by brothers Maurice "Bub", Donald, Nathan "Jim", and Dalphus Brown. Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Erma P. Lester Brown; two sons, Michael H. Brown and his wife Kylette of Beckley, and Gregory V. Brown and his wife Debra of Tuscaloosa, Ala. A brother, Alvis Brown of Red Lion, Del; two sisters, Edna Mae Smith of Roanoke, Va., and Norma Jean Bragg and her husband Clarence of Daniels, W.Va; four grandchildren, Erin Buckland and her husband Greg of Beckley, Michael Kyle Brown of Beckley, James Greg Brown and his wife Shelley, and Melissa Miller and her husband Gavin, all of Tuscaloosa, Ala; seven great grandchildren are also among his survivors. Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life of Howard Brown on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Minister Jim Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. on June 7, 2012.4

He was in his 80th year. The 8th of ten children, James Nathan Brown was born on July 2, 1930, at Lester. His parents were the late Parley Vernon and Effie Lee Greer Brown. His brothers, Don, Dolphus, and Bub, and his sisters, Lillian Hall and Marie Leef, have preceded Nathan in death. James Nathan spent his childhood at Lester. He was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, Class of 1948. Known as "Wimpy" at the mines, James Nathan entered the mines at the age of 18. He began his career at McAlpin mines and retired in 1990 as the superintendent of the New River Company. James Nathan had 40 years in the mining industry. In 1948 while skating at the Eccles Skating Rink, James Nathan would meet a pretty gal by the name of Jenna Lee Minor. Married on Oct. 14, 1949, Nathan and Jenna Lee would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this coming fall. Theirs has been a blessed marriage. To this union were born a daughter, Sharon Marie, and a son, Gary Nathan. Nathan and Jenna Lee have made their home on Wyoming Avenue the past 56 years. A member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge #95 AF & AM, James Nathan and Jenna Lee attended First United Methodist Church on South Heber Street. A very outgoing person, James Nathan Brown will be remembered as a good neighbor and friend to many people. In addition to Jenna Lee, those left to cherish his memory are his children, who loved their Dad deeply. They are Sharon Wisener and her husband, Bobby, of Cape Coral, FL, and Gary Brown and his wife, Pamela, of Beckley; he was the dear "Pa Paw" of Nathan Alan and Christopher James Brown, Jourdan Pack, Samantha Lane and Jonathan Rahal; the great-grandfather of Conner Lane and Carli Rahal; the fond brother of Alvis Brown of Bear, DE, Edna Mae Smith of Roanoke, VA, Norma Jean Bragg and her husband, Clarence, of Daniels and Howard Brown and his wife, Erma, of Maple Fork; several nieces, nephews, many friends and neighbors also survive. On Monday, June 20th, at 3 p.m. we will remember the life of James Nathan Brown with a "Service of Remembrance" at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Robert Stoddard and Rev. Gary Rumberg well be officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Monday. Pallbearers for the services at the mortuary will be Nathan's son, Gary, grandsons, Nathan Alan and Christopher James, his brother, Alvis, nephews, Dr. JC Leef, Greg Brown and Alan Bragg. Beckley Masonic Lodge #95 AF & AM will conduct graveside rites and serve as pallbearers at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity for Nathan's burial service. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Inc., Beckley. in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco. Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In keeping with Billy's wishes he will be cremated following the services. on June 19, 2011.3

Born on April 17, 1935 in Lester, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Parley Vernon Brown and Effie Greer Brown. Mrs. Bragg was a former employee of the G.C. Murphy Company at downtown Beckley, and was a former office manager for Town and Country Department Store in Beckley. Mrs. Bragg was a member of the Carriage Drive Church of Christ. She loved quilting and coin collecting. Mrs. Bragg was preceded in death by her siblings, Donald Brown, Marie Leef, Maurice "Bub" Brown, Lillian Hall, Howard Brown, Edna Mae Smith, and James Nathan Brown. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 58 years, Leonard C. Bragg; a son, Alan Bragg and his wife Carol Barbera Bragg of Charleston; two grandchildren, Nick and Lexie Bragg of Charleston, a brother, Alvis Brown of Bear, Delaware. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate the Life of Norma Jean Bragg on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Minister John Gibson and Minister Alan Rich officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity, W.Va. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Her grandson Nick Bragg, and her nephews Dr. J.L. Leef, Greg Brown, Mike Brown, Gary Brown, and Matt Bragg will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation to Bowers Hospice House and Visiting Angels of Beckley for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Norma in her final days. on September 24, 2014.2
