He was born in Hickory, Va., on April 29, 1933, the son of the late Burwell R. and Evelyn Garrett Wimmer. He had proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Ray was a former member of the IBEW Local 81 for more than 50 years. He also worked at the Norfolk Ford Plant before retiring from Union Camp in Franklin. Ray spent many years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Chesapeake Regional Medical Center as his passion was to help others. Ray was a former member of Oaklette United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Anne. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Atha Madison Wimmer; his two sons, David R. Wimmer and Steve J. Wimmer, both of Chesapeake; his sister, Elizabeth Harris; his many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted Monday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in Oaklette United Methodist Church, 520 Oaklette Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23325. The Rev. C. Eugene Meek will officiate. Born in Blackwater, Va., Mr. Kerekes was a retired superintendent of NOB with 38 years service. He was a member Indian River Lodge No. 252 AF&AM, where he was past master and current secretary, Scottish Rite Mason and Khedive Temple Shrine, Provost Guard, past president Virginia Federation National Association of Active and Retired Employees and Area 2 vice president of Virginia Federation Chapters. He was also a member of Oaklette United Methodist Church and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, where he was a tail gunner in B-17s from 1942 to 1945. He was the widower of Eileen Kerekes and predeceased by a stepson, Patrick Hart. He is survived by his son, Ernest F. Kerekes Jr. and wife Margaret; three grandchildren, Adelia Kerekes, Amy Hart and Patrick Hart; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, with the Rev. Eugene Meek officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.
