He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a long-time member of the Green Hill Church of the Brethren. He was a charter member of the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department and served with them for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Taylor Lodge #23. His surviving family includes his wife of 51 years, Wanda Burton Duncan, of Salem, Va; children, Ronald Edward Duncan and wife, Debbie, of Salem, Va., and Carol Duncan Esau and husband, Bob, of Pittsboro, N.C; grandchildren, Ryanne and Paige Duncan, of Salem, Va; a brother, James T. Duncan and wife, Avalea; a sister, Geneva Blosser and husband, Warren; brothers-in-law, Tom and wife, Edith, and A.D. Burton Jr; sisters-in-law, Georgia Burton, Eileen Dunavant, and Mabel French; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 23, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009, at Lotz Funeral Home. The Reverend Shawn Tanner will officiate. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Green Hill Church of the Brethren, 2699 Harborwood Road, Salem, Va. 24153. on April 23, 2009.⁴
