Mr. Bell was a devoted member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Roanoke and served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He retired from Smith Transfer. He is survived by his son, Ronnie Douglas Bell and his wife, Sandra of Vinton; daughter, Connie Bell Highberger and her husband, Clay of Roanoke, formerly of Salem; three grandchildren, Robynne Bransden (Ian), Rhandee Bell, and Scott Highberger (Mandy); two great-grandsons, Zachary and Brandon Highberger, with an additional great-grandchild on the way. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Oakey's North Chapel with Rev. N. Michael Ennis officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel. on March 4, 2003.2

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired machinist. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Hale Duncan; sisters, Treva D. Poff and husband Arnold of Christiansburg and Evie D. Shelton of Copper Valley; sisters-in-law, Clara Pruett of Roanoke, Jackie Bell and husband Moyer A. of Copper Hill, and Frances Marshall of Roanoke; brothers-in-law, Wallace Hale of Norfolk, Neb., and Cecil Bell of Vinton; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 1998 at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Chapel, 5160 Peters Creek Road, by the Rev. Jim Moran. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home. on October 12, 1998.1

     Winfield Leroy "Windy" Condon was buried at Brown Cemetery (also known as Twin Chapel Cemetery), West Manchester, Preble Co., Ohio.2 He Winfield Leroy Condon, 83, of West Manchester, Ohio, passed into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, March 18, 2011, surrounded by his family in the home where he was born. Beloved of all, Windy is remembered for his kind & gentle nature, his readiness to lend a hand, his quiet faith, his love of children and nature, and his easy laughter. Born on April 25, 1927 in West Manchester, OH, he was the son of the late Charles R. & Esther (Petry) Condon. Windy retired after many years as a millwright in the URW for Dayton Tire & Rubber in Dayton, OH. He also retired from the UAW for Union City Body Company of Union City, IN. Windy enjoyed farming at the family farm. Windy proudly served as a Fireman First Class in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. Preceded in death, by grandson, Shane Andrew Becker in 1989. Survivors include wife of 60 years, Mary M. (Johnson) Condon of West Manchester, OH; daughters & sons-in-law: Cathy C.
