Cannaday, 81, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 2, 2005 at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 30, 1923 in Bramwell, WV, the son of the late Morton and Laurie (Taylor) Cannaday. In addition to his parents, Morton was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret; granddaughter, Lori Crawford; brothers and sisters. Morton retired from the U. S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer SKC First Class in 1963 after 23 years of dedicated service. He then served an additional 7 years with the U. S. Navy Fleet Reserve completing his naval career with 30 years of proud service to our country. A true man of faith, he was a long time, prayerful member of the Greater Columbus Freewill Baptist Church where he served as an honorary lifetime deacon and, in the 1970's, he served as their Boy Scouts Troop Leader. He was formerly a member of the Pine Top CCU Church in Bainbridge, OH where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent and church deacon. In 1995, he was voted the Senior Citizen of the Year for the community of Bainbridge. Morton loved listening to gospel music and he enjoyed gardening. But above all, he was purely and unselfishly devoted to his family and their well being. Morton is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Euna, whom he married August 12, 1977; his devoted children, Debra O'Brien, Billy Morton (Becky) Cannaday, Kathy (Adam) Monroe, Jerry (Karen Depoy) Cannaday, Anthony (Kim) Cannaday, Marcus (Jeanette) Tadlock and Alice (John) Young; special grandchildren, Gary (Trina) Crawford Jr., Robert Lacy Cannaday, Margaret Cannaday, Tiffany (J. R.) Copley, Kim (Chris) Chapin, Leah (Jason) Stone and Brandy Cannaday; 13 precious great-grandchildren; sister, Lillie Clouse; brother, Bernard (Pearl) Cannady; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Calling hours 6-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 p.m. Friday at the SCHOEDINGER NORRIS CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City. Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Greater Columbus Freewill Baptist Church, 2546 Briggs Rd., Columbus, with Pastor Howard Cameron III officiating. Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, with the Rev. David L. Kidd Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. on July 24, 2001.4

He was retired from DataCard Corporation and was a member of New Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Cannaday was a U. S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and a lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by a daughter, Michele Maas and husband, John of Homestead, FL; a sister, Betty Taylor and husband, Lewis of Grove City, Ohio; three grandchildren, Brian Maas, Nicholas Maas and Krystine Maas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Cannaday and four sisters, Dorothy Cromer, Doris Pecora, Lucille Hurt and Mildred Conklin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 5, 2010 in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sidney Norton officiating.
