Her married name was Boblitt.2 Karen Marie Fisher Karen Marie (Gum) Brust nee Fisher passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 peacefully at home, after a courageous, four-year battle with NSCLC & malignant brain cancer. She is survived by her husband, Fredd W. Brust; daughter, Joie Lynn (Jarred) Behunin of Mesa Verde, AZ; step-children, Callie Rae (Josh) Parr of Mahomet, IL, Jeremy Francis (companion, McKenzie White) Brust of Springfield, William (companion, Cyndi) Boblitt of Piggott, AK and Dawn Boblitt of Auburn; siblings, Dan (Lily) Fisher of Prescott, AZ, Harry Joseph “Joe” and Diane Schleyhahn, both of Springfield; grandchildren, Kaylei, Ivy and Abby Behunin, Stella Rose and J. Towns Parr, Maria (Hunter) Rhodes, Robert Boblitt and Hunter Smith; nephews, Ryan and Aaron Fisher; niece, Erica (Glenn) Huff; and many, many cousins, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Schleyhahn (nee Thornton), father, Jack Fisher, son, Shane Michael Meeler, and several uncles, aunts and cousins. Karen was employed by St. John’s Hospital in the Communications Department for 20+ years. It was a job that she loved and took pride in. She went back to school in her late 40’s and early 50’s, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. She loved playing video games, Hallmark TV, gardening, the Chicago Cubs, our cats – Max & Sandy, the life she shared with Fredd for 25 years, and the many trips they took to Nashville, Memphis, Prescott & San Diego. Fredd writes, “she was the strongest, most resilient person I have known. She was my light & strength. I am thankful for the time we had together! RIP “Pokie” – I love and miss you. Until we meet again!”.2 Her married name was Gum.1 Her married name was Brust.2 She married Unknown Gum.1 Karen Marie Fisher married Fredd W. Diana J. Schleyhahn Diana J. Schleyhahn, 67, of Springfield, died at 3:51 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Diana was born on February 9, 1955, in Springfield, the daughter of Harry and Frances (Thornton) Schleyhahn. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1974 and worked at Burger Chef before starting her 40 + years career for the State of Illinois with the Secretary of State. Diana enjoyed bowling and was previously on a league. She loved shopping and spending time with her family and friends. Diana was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Karen Brust. She is survived by her daughter, Erica (Glen) Huff of Peoria, AZ; grandson, Nathan Huff; brothers, Danny (Lily Gannon) Fisher of Prescott, AZ, and Joe Schleyhahn of Springfield; brother-in-law, Fredd Brust of Springfield; two uncles; friend, Richard Smith (Erica’s father); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.2 She was born on February 9, 1955 at Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois.2 She died on August 18, 2022 at Springfield, Sangamon Co., Illinois, at age 67.2

Russell W. Thornton Russell W. Thornton, 91, of Springfield, died at 6:55 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center. Russell was born on April 14, 1930, in Springfield, the son of Lynn and Margaret (Owens) Thornton. He married Elizabeth O’Neal on December 12, 1951, in Springfield. Russ proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, the Illinois National Guard, and the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Springfield Ski and Boat Club and Springfield Elks Lodge #158. Russ enjoyed camping, boating, and traveling. Most importantly, Russ loved spending time with his family and his dog, Missy. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Schleyhahn; and brother, Lynn Thornton. His grandson, David Clark III, passed away shortly after Russ on August 25, 2021. Russell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty”; daughter, Gail (Ron) Thornton Gustin; son, Tim Thornton; foster-daughter, Shari Hall, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Josh (Jackie) Turasky of Rochester and Sommer Thornton of Springfield; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Grant of Springfield; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; brothers, Jim Thornton of Springfield, and Harry Thornton of Pawnee; and many nieces and nephews.
